That looks perfect. The only reason why I went with one I have is that I needed 120 max PSI support at the time. I don't need it now and probably would get something smaller but I already have this one..haha.
I went with it because home depot ran a special buy 2 5amphr battery get a free tool so dubble win in my book..but I definitely like the setup u got

You need to put a wire grommet on the outbound wire hole. Come spring you are going to have a wasp nest the size of the compressor.
Yea that could have been cleaner, the wire had a pre-installed SAE connector on it so I had to make the hole big enough to pass the connector thru.... I guess could cut a grommet and keep that wire from fraying. The stock cubby has 2 holes in the bottom already though and I've never had a bug nest built in there... So I don't think that will be an issue

Well it is all the buzz - I like the setup though. Living in North-Cackalacky I've had wasps build nests the size of softballs with an entry hole you wouldn't even think they could get through. Been stung so many times I've been killing them by hand if they get close enough.

Finally got to this project:
VAIR 12v 23amp 2CFM (enough to seat a tubeless Mtb tire)

Hard mounted into the bed cubby
Wired directly to the 12v battery under the rear seat in the hybrid. I installed a 30amp fuse inline to the compressor. Routed the wiring along the factory harness above the fender well, and thru one of the body vents into the backseat.

Nice and clean fits like a glove!

Can’t argue w the craftsmanship, but unless it can do more than fill a tire, why? Like others I put a portable under the rear seat, done. These are now available in many forms- I have a Halo top line that is battery powered and will jump start, air compressor plus flashlight and usb powerbank for maybe $150, wife has a much smaller air compressor that is both battery and cigarette lighter dc powered ( thus doesn’t matter if internal battery dies), and has a separate jump starter under seat too. I suppose these could go in that compartment instead of under seat but either way are easily transported outboard of the truck, no installation work and easy to replace if they ever die. Regardless , besides why, I like your work .

Super clean install. Only thing I would do differently is wrapping the entire length of the power and ground wire in weatherproof Tessa tape and rubber grommet where they enter the storage box. Make it look factory. I would think that large gauge bright red wire might draw unwanted attention from Ford in the event of an electrical related warranty claim.

I just keep this under my rear back seat storage, 6 months since I bought the Maverick and haven't needed to use it yet.
give it a try before you need it!

We were at a car gathering, and someone noticed the low tire on my Fleetwood. Someone else had one of those contraptions he'd been waiting for a chance to use, and rushed off to grab it.

It melted.

I don't mean that it shut off partway through. It melted its case as it overheated. I think it toasted its motor, too!

Boy that's a great pace to mount that. I need a small tank and place to mount it for my airhorn too.
The people selling my house said that the thing bolted to the roof in the pool house was a compressor.

After we moved in, I looked closer--it's a tank.. And apparently what's at the othered of the air hose in the garage!. I think it's about 10 gallons.

Yea I actually did add a grommet to the bottom of the cubby, but didn't wrap the wires. Might do that

I specifically installed to fill and mount mountain bike tires.
To install a tubeless MTB tire you need a quick blast of air volume to seat the tire on the rim. The long coil I have holds enough air @ ~120 psi when pumped up. That quick blast of air will seat the tire on the rim for a bike. I didn't install this to necessarily fill car tires. But can also use it for that

Very cool.

I would definitely use a metal plate as a backer since I don't trust that plastic holding up over time. Maybe even sandwich one on each side of the plastic or extend down and across the floor for added support.

Thanks for the idea!

I implemented something similar with a few tweaks:
  • To use the 20A Flex bed power connector, I lowered the Viair start/stop pressure switch to 85/105 psi. This keeps the compressor draw under 18A, allowing it to run safely off the Flex Bed 12V tap.
  • I revised the wiring to include a more robust 30A weatherproof switch. I didn’t trust the compressor’s factory power switch to avoid accidental activation.
I wrapped the harness with cloth wire harness tape and it looks factory! and the kids can't run of with it (or steal it)!
