Yes, someone could easily slice through the back window (or side ones if applicable). If someone wants in that bad, they will get in no matter what you have.
Ah, but that is not really true. People will only take what they think they can get away with. If they think law enforcement is going to catch them, then restrain themselves.

Smashing a glass window in a conventional camper shell is more noticeable visually and sonically. Casually slicing through the canvas or a plastic window draws very little attention. Same reason as convertible car break-in probability vs hard tops.

Yours looks great. I just wanted one I could camp in. I’m looking for something I can use to cover the tailgate when it’s down. the Dac tent is too expensive at $200. Looking for a hack at under $100.
Flated toppers are awesome in the maverick for camping.

In fairness, the OP did ask, What do you think? But wow... folks are pretty critical of one another's rides this weekend... Is it the heat coming on?

I'm working on the same thing. I wasn't impressed with the way it sits and seals on the cab side though. Flated sent a video that says to tuck the side rain flaps in and have it hang out on the front by the cab. I also put a bulb seal under there to try to keep water out. For camping, to extend the bed I'm thinking I can modify an old tent and just hook it to the d rings on top with caribeaners. (Sp?) I don't want to pay for a dac tent either.

You're in CA. I'm in KS. I'm not worried. I only use mine 2x/yr. Otherwise, I have a hard tonneau as my daily.

False sense of complacency? The crime rate in KS is higher than it is in CA.

Alternatively, if you want to argue that you live in Olathe and it is much safer than your average KS city, I too live in a safer than average city, Santa Clarita. And it’s much safer than Olathe. But we still have property crimes and I wouldn’t want my plastic windows getting cut open so that someone could loot my pickup.

I agree. I’m looking for a truck topper tent for the down tailgate. Dac makes one but I’d like to find a solution at less than $205. There a great YouTube of a guy that does some pretty rugged camping in the Maverick. He has the Air Topper and Dac tent topper. I’m getting a trifold 4” foam mat. When one of the sections is doubled up it fits in the bed with the the tailgate closed. One section can go against the back while I sit on the other 2. Makes a nice little sofa.
I have the trifold mattress and i sleep great on the back of my Mav. I added this tent and it's amazing. Gives us space to change, store our gear and sleep with no bugs and good ventilation.

Yep that was my first edition. I cut a bed tent and attached it with Velcro and used the fly as a rain fly. Worked perfect. But I wanted something that was set up as soon as I arrive at my destination. Flated has hinted at some sort of extension for the top but will be interesting to see how much

It's sure a good thing my Maverick is always in the garage then. I'd be real worried otherwise. Also, did you not see that I have the topper on about 4 days/year. Even so, I've driven at least 10 years with several trucks that had soft tonneaus. I've never had anyone slice one of them either. I didn't buy the topper for security.

I don't know why but this has me thinking of the movie "E.T."

this is one option I was thinking of except using the Flated topper. Yours is a hard shell.

and to those commenting about slicing open the Flated topper, I live in Vermont so maybe in my little bubble that kind of thing is pretty rare. Although the Flated can be mounted on the truck all the time it's designed to go on and off for the versatility of switching between open bed/tonneau cover/Flated cap. For those living more crime prone areas I can see where there might be a problem with the Flated.

I like this solution except I would fabricate the extension from foam board insulation covered in fiberglass or poor man's fiberglass. It would be much lighter in weight.

I’m about to embark on the same thing. I’m thinking of more trying to guide the water out the sides. By creating a foam/pool noodle/wetf that wedges against the truck glass and the flated topper.
