Spring-Loaded Flex Bed Divider

I like the Flex Bed, but with the side tie downs and a hard tonneau cover clamped on, but I found it hard to maneuver a 2x6 into the rear slot. I could have easily made a hinged board to fit, but decided on something more versatile.

Using a double thickness of 3/4 plywood I created a spring-loaded divider that could be used several places.

Pictures attached show it In the back slot, upper slot and even 90 degrees to the tailgate. I use it primarily to hold 2 Roughneck containers that give me maximum height with the tonneau cover closed.

That is SWEET!!! But my old brain is having a hard time visualizing the spring (compression springs?) that must be sandwiched between the two sections of plywood. Very nice, very nice indeed.

I zoomed-in on the spring, looks like an extension spring, each end to an eyebolt.

Here are the basic dimensions I used, make the 2 parts and invert one of them. use 2 short (1.25 length) 3/8-16 screws but don't tighten them so tight the boards won't slide. Attach a stretch spring between the eye hooks and as you push the board ends together the spring has tension.
