I’ve had my Hybrid now since March, and I like it. Have a question that I Have asked some people, and no one knows the answer.

When you place the Maverick in sport mode, the computer makes the throttle response more aggressive, and the transmission “shifts” and holds the gear longer. However, does the elec motor also stay engaged longer? It sure feels like it, compared to “normal” mode. It would make sense for it to do this.

Since we aren't given a readout of what's happening with the electric motor after you exceed the battery-only power threshold in eco/normal mode either, I don't know how we could compare it. Unless someone with an OBD2 device can see some real time diagnostics from the electric motor or battery output and can scientifically test.

I forgot about the Power Flow display, not sure if this is a Lux package thing only, but here are the menus I got on my drive home. I wonder if there are additional graphics when you’re going very fast where the battery is not shown to be involved? Or maybe thats always the graphic?

These are in Normal mode

Good question. It is my understanding both motors are involved which gives the Maverick that extra boost.

Also interested in hybrid Sport mode. I have over 5K on my hybrid now and sport mode definitely has more power but less mpg.

Where do you find this on your Maverick, I know you have the LUX package, this would be a great display.

In the SYNC3 menu there is an "Apps" menu as shown on the main screen, it should show up there as one of the apps, called "Power Flow".

Damn, what a cool app, I don't have Sync3.. I guess you could see if you place the truck in sport mode and nail the throttle and see if the elec and ICE run together.

I wish it would stay in whatever mode you select until you decide to change it instead of going back to normal everytime....

I have taken to driving my hybrid in Sport mode most of the time as it is much more responsive and combines the torque of the ICE and electric motor over 35 MPHour. I am still averaging nearly 40 MPG in Sport and am fine with that. Also, Sport mode eliminates the weird idiosyncrasies of hybrid shutter and grabbing brakes.

I can get behind everything you said except the last sentence.

Sport mode won't eliminate "shudder" or grabby brakes but can mask it. Kind of like turning up the radio to mask a squeak. The radio won't fix the squeak, but it may help you keep your sanity. 😎

Sadly after 1400mi of various driving modes i only get low to mid 30's mpg in sport mode on a good day, its usually less than that . 90% of my miles have been split 75/20/5% ECO/ Normal/Other so far and i have only what i've observed so far to go by. the BIG drawbacks to Sport mode IMHO are 1st and foremost how hard it seems to be to drive in Electric only mode, and i REALLY like driving in electric mode. most of my miles are local under 35 mph or so. whenever i use sport it seems that even the slightest additional throttle kicks me into Hybrid power, next the simulated and natural sounds from more ICE utilization seem so much louder to me. last to me there is a distinct difference in the feel and the responsiveness of the steering, any little twitch of the steering wheel seems to get a much quicker response. conversely while driving in Eco my Mav different power usage gauges have, once i learned what they'e actually trying to tell me have 'coached me up' on how to best drive normally while still maxamizing MPG without having to resort to extreme hypermiling . i did NOT purchase the hybrid version for it's performance. it is more than adequate for onramps, merging and passing as far as i'm concerned and i believe the performance/mpg tradeoff is very appealing for a whole lot of folks.
