Are there any colors which are less sensitive?
This has nothing to do with the color of paint. You have to take most of these posts with a grain of salt. Most of these people are making claims about things that they clearly know nothing about. The name of this thread should be “Rock chips”.

any opinions on the protective film on hood/fenders you can get factory applied as an option for $360.00? Coincidentally to this thread I was able to test drive a 2.0 Eco Maverick at my local Ford dealer last Thursday which finished my researching and testing & sealed the deal to order my Maverick. We agreed I should go do my final build sheet and come back to place order. While doing that, I decided to add the protective film even though it seems kinda pricey. Now seeing this thread it adds confidence it is the right move and in my budget anyways. I choose Carbonized Gray so that may be a bonus too...
The quality of film they use will likely be garbage in comparison to a good 3M PPF. Don’t do it.

James, you are a smart guy. I have always heard, even as a child, that a new car should avoid car washes in drive through methods for at least three months. In common times, when cars were built and then shopped and commonly sat on dealer lots for a couple months without travel it seems the paint had time to truly cure; but with Maverick, the buyers are waiting for their new truck and Ford will ship them out as quickly as possible, with the vehicle going right to work on the road. Anyone that can, please value your paitn job by being thoughtful of where you drive and care for the exterior for a couple months. Even with care however, dings will happen. I remember my brother's 1984 Camaro being rear ended on the way home from dealership. The model wass new and parts were scarce. He had to wait for repairs and ended upp driving a rent a car for three months while his new sports car sat awaiting body work. It still brings me sadness to think these things happen.
I learned my car wash lesson on my last new car. Took it to a brushless carwash after 3 weeks. As the car was going under the dryer unit, it malfunctioned and rained down chunks of metal onto my new car. Only $8000 to repair and repaint. My Maverick will not see the inside of a car wash for a long time.

That sucks.
As a life long rule,
No vehicle I care about will ever go through a car wash. Savages

The training Lariat with the paint protection film on it didn't look good at all. There was a very visible line that made it look like a dirty line on the hood. I personally have always like bug shield, but I know not everyone does. Then again bug shield have been known to leave marks on the paint if they actually lay on the paint.

Nothing like some good old
Guessing it is something else because paint generally cures in 24 hours. I would bet it has something to do with the surface prep.

I plan to avoid car washes and planning a simple soap/water bucket wash for 1-2 months, and then a wax job to protect the paint.
Nothing like good old soap and water washes to help maintain a truck. Good wax job can help prevent small chips and the damage by May Flies, plus it conditions the paint. That's another reason I like the small size of the Maverick.

The only new car that I've had recently that didn't have paint issues was my Italian built Renegade actually. Newer paint it terrible. Every Scion I have had looked rough up front. I had the front end reshot on my xD and it looked better than the day I bought it..

My Maverick will go straight for Ceramic coating after picking it up.

To the OP, thanks for sharing.

It appears the Maverick may be plagued by an issue very common with the Bronco Sport. Three pit marks / rock chips in the front end of my vehicle already after just 400 miles.

Well that sucks. I tried to order the film protection and was told it wasn't available for my Rapid Red FE. I wonder why considering it could prevent this sort of "oh shit".

How long does paint take to cure? That’s dependent upon what type of paint it is. As a professional artist I’m really only familiar with high grade artist’s acrylics. They can take varying times to fully cure, depending upon a number of different factors, including the thickness of the paint layer. Surfactants in acrylic paint can continue migrating up to the surface for years. I don’t know what material is currently used for auto painting, but the fact remains, curing is a chemical process that happens at a molecular level, and it happens with all paint. It just differs with different paint types. There must be someone out there who is familiar with current auto paints who could chime in.

I live in a small rural town with 1 Ford dealer and no "wrap" installers that I am aware of to go aftermarket. I like the idea of having things factory installed since they are covered under warranty and undergo QA checks before leaving the factory. I never gave this topic a single thought until I recently noticed some kind of shield material at bottom front of rear fender wells on my 2013 Grand Cherokee. Looks like it is placed to protect from rock chips coming up from the road, but material is transparent and still completely adhered after 8 years, including 4 here in rural CO where we have lots of dirt and gravel roads. It's been through hundreds of car washes too.
