Any suggestions?? My buddy decided it was smart to lean a metal shotgun against the door while driving on a dirt road…

I would try some steel wool lightly over the scratch and apply 303 protectant. Probably won't dissappear but slightly less visible.

A little heat. I would take a hair dryer to it and it will look better.

I get so tired of hearing, "don't worry about it, it's an economy truck." Good luck fixing it man. I'd be upset also. 28K isn't "economy".

Hit that area with Steel wool and you will remove additional texture and make it worse.

The first scratch/dent is the hardest. After that, it's all downhill.

I don’t think you should apply heat or scratch it further with anything to “blend” it. I think thats going to make it worse.

Maybe somewhere down the line you can buy a trim replacement, or strip it out of a junkyard mav.

Wait for some other poor soul to experiment and find the “least worst” fix strategy.

Agree with this. Too much potential for something to go wrong with the heat. Plastics can reach their softening then their melt points quicker than you can react.

Agree… quicker than you can react.
Hey, the OP “ASKED” for suggestions and heat is a viable option. It’s been used in automotive plastic repair for years! Don’t go at it with a heat gun, sure. But a hair dryer, why not! Put your hand next to it and you got little to worry about.
