I got rear-ended driving to pick up my kid from daycare two weeks ago. Luckily she wasn't in the truck, but I just heard from the shop this morning (big backlog in claims work, I guess) that the truck is likely a write-off, with a completely obliterated tailgate, a buckled bed, and damage to the rear of the cab as it got pushed forward.

What a drag. I love that damn truck, and I'm not sure I can get another.

Hopefully your insurance gives you market value like I've seen others do. Then you can find another and pay the market adjustment if necessary to get you back into one.

Sorry dude. That sucks for you. I have new car replacement on my car insurance and wondered in a situation like yours, what would happen? How would my insurance company replace my Maverick with same make and model? Would they just give me fair market value amount in cash and say "good luck"? Would I lose my 1.9% financing?

I have replacement insurance, thankfully, and my agent says it is likely that they will overvalue the truck for its replacement cost (which isn't a terrible thing) but it could be hard to source another hybrid any time soon.

Dang! Glad no one in it was hurt! If you get market value you should be ok. But time to get one will probably be disappointing. Looks like anything will be hard to get for quite some time. I just saw on TV (so must be true) that GM HUMMER SUV/PICKUP sold 90k units in less than 10 minutes

Geeze, there seems to be an over abundance of rear end wrecks amongst this group. Is there something about the Mav making it particularly susceptible?

Maybe? But I'm not totally surprised given the force of the impact (I was fully stopped) and the fact that his steel bumper rammed hit tailgate, and the back edge of the bed, which buckled panels further forward.

Also, the write off criteria is about 50 percent of value, and I paid ~$40K CAD, so that's not hard to get to with parts and labour.

Nobody does steel body work anymore. If it can't be replaced w/panel, totaled.

Confirmation bias, really. I think "idiots with cellphones" plague all communities.
