it was rumored long before then maybe around 2009,funny thing was the boys in stealership had absolutely no interest in it,yesterday was looking at used cars and found out the salesmen knew hardly anything about the vehicles they were trying to sell.
Do you expect a USED car salesman, who likely will be selling insurance in 6 months, to go to factory training on EVERY vehicle ever produced so he or she can answer your specific questions before you say no thanks? Salemen's job is to sell not answer technical questions that most mechanics would have to Google to answer. It is on YOU to research the vehicle you are interested in, find the answers to your questions, and make an informed decision. Same at Lowe's or Home Depot,I do not expect the guy who started working there 2 weeks ago to know everything about every refrigerator they sell. Just if it is in stock and when can it be delivered.

Seems you can't buy a new Kia at a Hyundai Dealership, and you can't buy a new Hyundai at a Kia dealership.
My daughter bought her new (1st year) Kia Forte at a Hyundai Dealership in Stroudsburg PA. They were in the process of opening new sales/service locations and the the former location was being torn down. Until Kia had a building, her service was at Hyundai. This car replaced the Spectra and had matching “guts” as the Elantra…. But they were manufactured in different factories in Korea.
When Hyundai arrived in the US, their rule was to have dedicated showrooms. This lesson was learned by the great Honda CVCC first trying to sell next to motorcycles, then exploding after opening dedicated showrooms.
Chung Ju-yung has a great legacy worldwide, not just motor cars.
FYI the 1st Forte was designed by Peter Schreyer of Audi “A Series” fame. He got credit for saving Audi.

Yet Ford is the Winner every Year of # of Trucks Manufactured and Sold, Not GM.

Seems you can't buy a new Kia at a Hyundai Dealership, and you can't buy a new Hyundai at a Kia Dealership.

Seems they have their own product lines and make their own marketing decisions.

Your Ignorance doesn't change facts on the ground.
My Willowbrook Ford dealer that I bought my Mavericks from is also a Kia dealership.

Shared showroom?
My daughter works at place that has 12 brands, and 12 showrooms. Also it’s own street that gates close overnight. When I was working in upstate NY I used to watch annoying TV commercials for a dealer. Then I’d go visit my mom in FL and watch the same exact commercials for. That explained the palm trees in NY. 🤔🙂.

They are made in Montgomery, AL. Technically more American than the Maverick.
True, but w no hybrid option and poor fuel economy I think this vehicle was doomed to fail or at least fall short I just don’t know what they were thinking? Why didn’t they try adding a hybrid option before canceling it? They have all those power plants so did they design it in a way that none of the hybrid/phev options could fit? Really? ( they actually pay people to make these decisions?)

When buying a car from a dealership (not a flim flam place) people expect a certain degree of knowledge. A smaller place with a bevy of used cars from all sorts of manufacturers? Well, I'm not stepping foot because I wouldn't expect the same degree as I would at a large, big three dealership.

The individual from your Home Depot/Lowe's example works in the appliance dept or gardening section, or where?

I don't expect a car salesperson new or used to actually know diddly squat about cars, even less about trucks. And I have not been disappointed. I expect to walk into a dealership knowing more about what I want to purchase, than what the salesperson does.
In this day and age the information is out there, you just have to access it.
Automotive sales people new or used are not sent to any type of factory training and in my experience are not actually "Car Guys/Girls".
I had my wife's Escape in for service early one morning before the showroom was actually open for business but you had to pass through the showroom to get to the waiting room.
While we waited you could hear the manager in the sales people having one of their rah-rah sessions. It was all about closing the deal.

no! I expect them to have an interest and passion for what they sell, have a general knowledge for Pete sakes, the only thing worse are lumberyard employees! Its not hard to stay abreast of manufacturers fiobles and triumps. I don't want to buy something from someone who knows less about the product then I do,this new electronic jump can be figured out by any teenage text thumper,I worry about the mechanicals and its durability.

The Ford dealer nearest my home changes sales people monthly. Car sales is a high turnover occupation. NO I DO NOT EXPECT THE SALESMAN TO KNOW THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE OR EVERY FUNCTION ON THE CAR. My "example" of a big box store would be the appliance department but I know for a fact that 1 day they worl appliances next day plumbing they are NOT experts.

That is on YOU to learn not them to teach. If it is so easy to figure out YOU should not need a salesman to educate you.

Then you have extremely low standards when it comes to services and products, no offense. Selling a car? The salesman should know a few basics. To do any job one needs a certain amount of knowledge. To do it well, that person also needs intelligence. One doesn't need to be an expert. Asking someone a question and you can find out within two seconds if they know their arse from a hole in their head.

Yesterday a friend asked me to take a ride with him as he test drove a Navigator. Some kind of black label something or another. Nice SUV. Huge. Comfortable. Not my bag. Saleswoman told us she has been with Ford for over twenty years and with this Ford/Lincoln dealer for a few of those years. Pretty good I thought and still do. Clearly I knew the answer before asking but would you believe I stumped her when I asked what was under the hood? Is this an Ecoboost? "Hmmmm" was the answer. Something quite basic and easy should be known by the salesperson, no?

Seems you delight in asking questions when already knowing the answer. When I was working for 42 years for the same company we had a name for people like that and it was not complimentary. No I am not SHOCKED because her job is to SELL not know the technical details. I have HIGH standards from REAL professionals NOT from a job anyone with a GED can get and does!

I never really liked the Santa Cruz. I won’t miss it. Does anyone dare challenge the mighty Mav?😉

and now with that comptition gone Ford will raise the price again
Pure conjecture.
There are lots of legitimate reasons for pricing going up.
Having a Santa Cruz on the market is a pretty lame hedge against Mavinflation...
