I am curious about your mileage because I have the same truck on order and I haven't seen this mentioned yet.

Do you have the spray in liner? Is there a possibility that you are leaking fuel?

Ive had this truck 4 months. I don't drive a lot and I currently have about 2k miles on the odometer.

AWD, 4k tow running 245 65 17s and 1 inch front level lift. K&N drop in filter, no other mods. 89 octane gas used every time. Standard drive mode. I use it for personal transport and dont haul any heavy loads. Tire PSI set to 35.

I live in NW Indiana and do mixed driving of hwy and streets. I drive normally and I'm not a leadfoot. I don't use remote start or sit in traffic. I am getting absolute horseshit mileage. I have not seen 20mpg. I understand the figure may be off a tad with the slightly different tire size but other people with the same truck and mods are claiming 30mpg. WTF gives already? I bought a small truck to save on gas mileage. My V6 equinox was a gas pig and got better mileage. Its one of the reasons I dumped it. With the the gas $ now going through the moon its starting to bother me. I have the money but I didn't buy a "baby truck" to piss money away on gas. I bought this truck to get a few more mpg than the equinox and I was expecting to get at least 22mpg. I understand going up a size in tires may kill 1-2 mpg but come on now. Enough with this BS already. Im tired of the.excuses. Im seeing 17-18mpg tops. Less than 280 miles per tank. I am always putting gas in this truck. I've reset all settings twice to start from scratch to see if that helped and it has not.

Anybody have any ideas what could be going on? I cant be getting 10-12 less than other members with the same truck. Winter gas blend, altitude, driving style/ BS already. 10-11 mpg less than others is NOT normal. Something is wrong here and I'm getting pissed. The biggest reason people buy small trucks to save on gas.

My suggestion is zero out your trip meter next time you fill up. I was showing 7 mpg when I picked up my truck which gradually started climbing with time but still was topping out at about 21. Reset the trip meter and the mpg started looking much better. It's now showing me 31 on the highway and about 23 in the city with Lariat lux + off road and towing packages and BFG Trail Terrain 245 tires.

I am your southern neighbor in south central KY and lived in IN for 18 yrs. I know how flat the land scape is and your fuel mileage sounds horrid.

I have a full loaded 2.0t Lariat Lux since Nov. with 3200+mi. It has bed rails and tonneau cover and I’m see 24.5 mixed mileage even when I carry a load of kayaks.

I would be hounding Ford and my dealer for some answers. That just sound right.

I've have an XLT AWD with the 4k tow package, I'm getting 7.5l/100km (31.3mpg) in crappy winter condition on the hwy for the last two long runs. I also have 2.0l EB AWD '14 Fusion , the Maverick gets much better mileage the Fusion, I have a K&N filter on the Fusion, hoping it would help it's mileage, did nothing, kind off useless iMO.

You really just want to complain, not understand, right? Seems to be a toxic vent rather than a request for assistance, understanding, but alas.

You lifted the truck
You put in the K&N filter and put on bigger tires
You're comparing your mileage to people who drive differently from you, likely in very different weather. Maybe you're even comparing against hybrid drivers' mileage reports.
You don't tell us how much of a lead foot you are
You claim that this includes a decent amount of highway driving and don't do a lot of idling, yet you average ~22.6 mph.
You talk about remote start but that only matters when you hand-calculate your miles driven between stops to the gas it takes to fill up to the same level (first time preferably the same pump clicks off) against the trip odometer for that tank. Has no bearing on the mpg displayed on the dash.
You don't tell us what your Equinox was rated relative to what you got out of it.
You don't tell us if you're driving this Maverick in the same way. Don't even tell us if you're using Sport mode, for instance, which is much less efficient than Eco or even Normal.

You claim it's "BS" that you're not getting ~30 mpg when your driving at best matches the city profile, where it's rated for 22mpg city, vs. 29 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined. Factoring in what you did to the poor truck, winter weather and winter blend gas, and your irrational anger that implies you are not remotely gentle with the throttle, 18mpg is entirely reasonable.
There's OP's issue. You are correct. A lot of slower speed or stop and go. Add in a turbo which is much more easy to get carried away in (running a richer AFR) and every thing you stated is true.

OP is trying to compare to people who have highway commutes and probably employ hypermiling techniques.

I live close to you, and its been cold, and when I use the remote start every trip, the fuel economy is horrible, may be too much idling time. Just a thought.

Exactly. The EPA's 'city' calculation is based on a trip that averages 21mph, but over a 30 minute long drive and likely at 'normal' ambient temperatures. If you drive around for the day and stop at 4 different stores/places for errands with a mile or two between them, you'll get way worse than what the city value is from the window sticker.

I get 10.5 to 100 so around 21 miles to a gallon and I'm stock AWD mix driving but no hwy , seems fine to me considering you got bigger tires and a lift .

Just out of curiousity, how do you have 8.5 hrs of engine time for 191.4 miles? Seems there may be a lot of idle time there.

4k hurts milage? Cuz ratios? I figured for highway it wouldn’t matter since the cruising gears should be unaffected
IIRC the ratio of the differential is changed so that you effectively are in a somewhat less fuel-efficient mode at all times. Your rpm's go up for any speed.

Man... I would have to say that you need to take that thing in to the dealership and have them check the injection and turbo. It could be that you simply need to adjust for getting better air flow with the K&N and they just need to adjust the fuel flow but.... I was just checking mine and over the weekend I was up to 30.8 mpg, calculated not the guesstimate on the dash. I have been running 89 and 91 octane non-ethanol fuel since I got the truck, I did run a tank of 87 octane but the mileage was around 26. I get the best mileage running 91 octane but 89 still gives me 28 - 30 mpg. I am running totally stock right now. 4k tow AWD Fx4 XLT 2.0L EB
