I just got my 2026 Lariat trim Maverick last Thursday. Just last month, I was guilty of locking my key fob in my old Ranger, so with that in mind, I put the Ford app on my wife's phone, and we decided she should try locking and unlocking my truck while it sat in my driveway, from her job across town. It worked. It was pretty strange, standing beside the truck, listening to the doors lock and unlock, from her app across town. Amazing times, these.

Truck talks to Ford servers.
App talks to Ford servers.

As long as both have network connectivity (truck via cell, phone via cell or wifi) - doesn't matter where they are.

Here's the kicker though.
Say you locked keys in truck.
But your app has no connectivity from phone to unlock remotely yourself.
How are you calling her to unlock it?

I guess if phone dies - merely need to borrow one to call her - great idea then.
Got her number memorized?

The Ford app works over TCP/ip, so you can start the truck from anywhere on the planet that has internet access. Like when on vacation in Peru for example.

I do. When I locked my key fob in the Ranger, I also locked my phone in it. I had to borrow one to call her. And she had to make a drive.

Ya’all are FaF

You’d have a helluva time getting back from Peru before the fifteen minute limit shuts her down.

Yes, if you are on planet earth and have cellular service, Fordpass SHOULD work. Then comes the day you NEED it to work and it DOES NOT. Like mine this morning didn't work. I drove my Maverick about 170 miles yesterday and parked next to my RV on my land with 5G service available. The 12v battery went low as it does nearly every time it drops to freezing. The truck would not remote start and warm up for me at 32°F.

Ford can't fix it and it should be a class action lawsuit. I'm about to deal with it myself since Ford can't design a proper electrical system in their Hybrid. Ford tested the battery twice and I took the battery to O'Reilly Auto Parts and had it charged and tested and all three times it passed. It's the software not charging the 12v battery, plain and simple. It's failed multiple times this winter and bricked itself to 6v twice. I'm forced to carry a jump pack for a 2025 $40,000 compact truck.

Your story is very common. Ford should be held to the fire on this design problem, but doesn't seem to care about fixing this major problem because they keep making promises to fix it then breaking them repeatedly.

One time my wife locked herself out of her Equinox. I was fishing in a boat 30 miles away. She called me snd I unlocked her vehicle.

My 2025 Lariat Hybrid has worked flawlessly. I had to look up how to start it remotely with the key fob a couple of weeks ago. I usually use the app, but my electric, wifi and internet were out because of the ice storm. Good news is it worked and we got electricity and wifi back, but no fiber in sight for internet.

Robot-Wrangler, good luck with your issue. Something is definitely broken in your system.

Try it driving down your street first and let us know.
