I think a lot of people are glossing over the fact he already HAS a primary snow removal vehicle. If he gets a beater truck, he'll have a tractor w/ blower, a truck w/ plow, and still have yet ANOTHER truck. Not everyone is going to be keen on having a bunch of large vehicles sitting around their property, especially a junker that only is there as a backup in times of dire need.

And that junker still needs to be maintained so that it'll start and run in whatever lousy conditions it needs to. You really don't want to be fooling with it in knee deep snow when it won't start and you probably don't want to be taking up precious garage space for a $1,000 clunker either. Tires dry rot, they get flat spots, they need replaced from time to time, they need aired up every so often. The oil should be changed annually regardless of it's been run or not. The fuel can go bad and needs to be stabilized and if it doesn't get used for two seasons, probably needs siphoned out, disposed of, and refilled. The battery needs to be on a battery tender of some sort, that's a wire you've got to run somewhere. Not to mention, vehicles that sit unused get nasty inside and out... bugs, mold, rodents, nests. Gotta check to make sure that nothing ate the wiring or built a nest where it can start a fire before you use it.

No thanks, I'd rather use the Mav very carefully in the off chance I need to do so instead. If I were him and it seemed too sketchy once started, I'd just grab a shovel and still be glad I didn't have a beater sitting around to worry about.

Because the Maverick is unibody it cannot accept a front mounted plow. I now use a front mounted John Deere snowblower. But living up north I have always had a back up plan in case problems arose with the tractor.

I still have a homeowners plow that I used on my last two pick ups so I decided to mount it to the receiver at the rear of the Maverick. It raises and lowers with a winch and an arm is used to swing the blade left or right. Most homeowner Plows are less than 300 pounds, well within the 400 pound tongue weight rating for my all-wheel-drive hybrid. I wouldn’t want to rely on it for all my snow clearing but as a backup, I think it will work just fine for me.

As a bonus, the plow height is low enough so that it doesn’t interfere with the rear camera or backup lights, which will be helpful for night snow clearing.I upgraded the winch with an $80 2500 pound winch from Harbor freight that included a wireless remote.

I have a small toolbox that I use for the various items that came with the winch. I also have a lawn and garden battery in the toolbox that I use to operate the winch.

I didn’t want to fool around with making connections to the Mavericks battery so I will keep the winch battery on slow charge for the season. All I need to do is remove two wires from the winch and I can take my toolbox into the house when I am not using the plow.

You, my friend, are a mechanical empresario. Very creative. Like the professor on Gilligan's Island. If you're too young to know this reference, google it.

I beg for updates! We're just getting over the biggest snowfall in about a decade, did you use the plow? If so, how'd it go?
Seems folks overlooked this small little fact.
He may not have to actually use the plow at all. As the op explained. He would only be using the snow plow if his main snow thrower breaks down.
This is what I use for snow removal. It is a 1025R John Deere with a 54 inch snowblower. I bought it last season to replace a 23 hp Kioti with a 48 inch snowblower. The Kioti was purchased new but was problematic which is why I had the homeowners blade on my four-wheel-drive Colorado. The John Deere is extremely reliable and I don’t ever expect to use a rear blade on my Maverick but it will be there for emergencies. I hope this clears things up for everybody.

I seriously doubt it will.

Ford recommends only driving your truck in reverse while towing for short distances only - parking, positioning etc.

Probably ok to reverse plow a standard driveway. But if your obnoxious neighbor says ā€œdo mine tooā€ - just show him the owners manual & say ā€œsorry broā€ šŸ˜Ž

From a Texan "What in hell is that contraption used for?" LOL
That joke didn't really age well, since this image was probably taken within 25 miles of you last weekend. Thanks for jinxing us.

The plow's downforce is too great for a chassis like the Maverick; it might be better to start with the Ranger.

So, you don’t eat meat? šŸ˜‰
Oh, I love vegan barbecue!

They taste so much better than garden variety vegetarians!
