I agree with those saying just use as a backup and maybe pull the snow instead of pushing it. I also agree about using small ATV's for very big snow jobs. When I lived in western part of Idaho, we got snow all the time, sometimes feet at a time. Used a snowblower and my 450 CC Yamaha. Never bent or broke anything except a shear pin on the blade a couple times. Good luck out there!

I've read your post and highlighted what I consider to be the important parts. It seems a lot of commenters have missed the fact that you have a tractor with a John Deere snow thrower on it for full-time cleaning of your driveway and that this is just a backup.
As long as you stick to your plan of using that plow on your driveway as a backup just in case, you'll be fine.
Just to be safe. I would use it as a back drag plow. Not as efficient kind of a pain in the ass, but it'll work just fine dragging the snow.
That way all stresses are in the correct direction.
Funny thing is. Once you have it all hooked up like this you'll probably never have to use it.
To do just your driveway, you don't need a setup like this. You can use your existing plow and just drag it backward.

Noone missed the 'backup' part. Maybe you don't understand what 99.99% of people mean when they say back up. It means if my primary fails, I can use my back up.
The is the stupidest thing I've seen anyone come up with. Just the jounce of that thing sticking out so far. Look at the lever arm.

It's basic physics. The tongue weight is at the hitch- not 4 feet out from it.
All of you saying to pull instead of push, what the heck does that change.
As you pull the snow forward, it's trying to push the blade back and up.

Now think about plowing. Drop it, pull the snow forward torquing upwards on the unibody.
Get to the end of the driveway and raise the blade, now you're torquing downwards on the unibody.
Yea- doing this over and over will be no problem.

Your trailer has wheels and an axle holding most of it's weight, snow doesn't.

Because the Maverick is unibody it cannot accept a front mounted plow. I now use a front mounted John Deere snowblower. But living up north I have always had a back up plan in case problems arose with the tractor.

I still have a homeowners plow that I used on my last two pick ups so I decided to mount it to the receiver at the rear of the Maverick. It raises and lowers with a winch and an arm is used to swing the blade left or right. Most homeowner Plows are less than 300 pounds, well within the 400 pound tongue weight rating for my all-wheel-drive hybrid. I wouldn’t want to rely on it for all my snow clearing but as a backup, I think it will work just fine for me.

As a bonus, the plow height is low enough so that it doesn’t interfere with the rear camera or backup lights, which will be helpful for night snow clearing.I upgraded the winch with an $80 2500 pound winch from Harbor freight that included a wireless remote.

I have a small toolbox that I use for the various items that came with the winch. I also have a lawn and garden battery in the toolbox that I use to operate the winch.

I didn’t want to fool around with making connections to the Mavericks battery so I will keep the winch battery on slow charge for the season. All I need to do is remove two wires from the winch and I can take my toolbox into the house when I am not using the plow.

I have that same plow on my beater silverado. I no longer insure or register the truck since it never leaves my property and its sole use is snow removal.
I do commend the OP for his creative mounting of the plow. And living in an area with a lot of snow, we are always looking for ways to make sure we don’t get snowed in.

He did say it was his back up plan and I get that. His set up will work so long as his plow does not get hung up on anything while plowing and he’s not trying to shove a foot of wet snow.

If you don’t need to plow snow in the winter then you don’t have a horse in this fight and you don’t understand why he did this, I do.

What about these?

19.5" stand off from hitch pin hole to the basket. (Clears most spare tires on Jeeps, etc.)
Basket is 25" deep after that, 60" long and 31.5" tall.

So on a ~ 44" lever.

Weight of attachment: 106 lbs.
Max Cargo: 500 lbs.
(440 lbs with basket, basket must be 60 lbs)

On the 2" receiver does a fully loaded basket exert ~2000 pound-feet WITHOUT BOUNCING?

I too live in MN out in the country and have a long driveway. I baby my Maverick and probably wouldn't do this but if you are careful I suspect could be used in a pinch. I always have a backup redundancy for snow plowing needs. 20+ years ago when I had a lot less resources I bought a big 6 foot wide V shaped plastic plow that weighed about 80 lbs and attached to the front of my Subaru outback with straps and padded cushions. Did amazing well for the few times I needed it each year for emergencies when my hired snowplow guy couldn't get to me in time (maxed out at about 6-8 inches of dry snow)

What is wrong with the whole idea is it appears the idea was to plow with the truck going in reverse and this is the worst thing you can do. Transmissions are not designed to push heavy loads in reverse they will break. Happened to me twice. Once trying to move a rock in reverse and another time a boat with Fords, then new over drive tranny, Ford paid for #2 because i had called corporate regarding the use in reverse because my experience with our fleet vehicles had already proven the new tranny did not like backing up with a heavy boat with surge brakes. Ford assured me they had fixed the problem and i would be fine but i wasn't the very first backup in my new Bronco 93, killed the tranny.
Why not turn the blade around and plow by driving forward?

When the snow falls, I look forward to photos and a nice report on how it went. I have never lived where it snows, but I've visited places like Wisconsin where after there is a light dusting everyone is out there with their plows: big plows, small plows plowing away and all the folks are so proud.
