I’ve been planning on changing my rear axle fluid with Valvoline gear oil since I’m a Valvoline fanboy. However, the spec for the oil is “75W” and I have no idea what the “-xx” number is.

I’ve got a sampling kit from Blackstone to test a bottle of that fluid and I will post back here when I find out what viscosity it is as well as what they have to say about it.

How many miles does it have on it??
not much but i put valvoline everywhere in all my cars to get rid of the oem fluid.

ford isn’t an oil company, they’re a car company. they build cars and push them out whereas valvoline ONLY makes oil so if their oil is bad, their company goes with it.

is why I’m changing the fluid so early

Fun fact: the Motorcraft fluids are made by “oil companies.” It’s not like Ford has a team of Mexicans in lab coats filling quart containers right next to the assembly line in Hermosillo.

Change your fluids as often you want, but “Ford isn’t an oil company” is a silly reason to do it. Now, if you’d said, “I can buy the same quality fluids for cheaper than Motorcraft,” you’d get a lot of head-nodding from folks around here.

Well, you're gonna hafta share a reason(s) better than the one you did previously, if you want anyone to believe that!

Don't be shy, spill the beans about OEM fluids!

Curious if it will show any wear? I have a 52 year old classic cuda.the rear diff fluid has been changed one time in that 52 years, when it was 45 years old.rear end is fine.

I'll jump in on this one....I read a few posts in the forum regarding the lack of fluid in the transfer cases with metal shavings. I'm also that guy that when purchasing a new to me used vehicle I always have all the fluids changed and I always asked for a good sampling of those fluids to see what they look like. In my case, I purchased this 2022 Ecoboost 1st edition with 20k and within a week changed brake, transfer case that was low and with metal shavings (hoping that's due to break-in) coolant, even windshield washer fluid, full synth oil, filter, air filter, cabin filter...Now I know I have a baseline and I do this for my own peace of mind! Oh and where I have all my vehicles serviced, they post all their work on Car Fax which is a really nice perk.

A hybrid has a fluid filled rear axle? Am I missing something?
OP has a very special Maverick. He's got a Hybrid AWD. I can Understand why he wants to take extra special care of it!

Sorry man. Nope If you have a Hybrid you do not have AWD. Just FWD (Front Wheel Drive) Meaning No Rear Diff
