Just so you know, that user manual doesn't provide the correct instructions for the maverick.

These folks could not be legit, at least from the perspective of their website. They list stock torque at 380 and we know we only have 277. Any legitimate outfit will proactively show dyno chart runs, adjusted for SAE conditions. FAIL.

So what’s the verdict on increases in mpg? Seems shady to me.

you cant gain power and mpg. more power means more air and that means more fuel.

My thoughts exactly. I don’t care about power.

Remember these folks are in Europe, they use 'Newtons' instead of foot lbs. 380 newtons are roughly = to 277 ftlbs. So take their measurements x .73 to get the correct figure.

I've tried installing this on two different occasions, and both times I get a check engine light and the engine runs rough. As soon as I uninstall it and hookup the factory gear everything is corrected. Any ideas?

I have not, seeing as how the guide wasn't even for the maverick I didn't bother.
The guide is wrong for installation pics only
Troubleshooting works across all race chip applications

You almost certainly have the B connector connected upside down. And you can try clearing the error codes and try again to see if they were one time or locked in.

This isn't necessarily true. It's all about efficiency to be honest. Emissions constraints will often cause a factory tune to run less efficient in the name of meeting emissions requirements. Aftermarket tuners have the luxury of not tuning under the same constraints and while it may not be legal or good for the environment many aftermarket tunes can increase fuel efficiency.
