I have a question regarding the latest recall that Ford will be issuing regarding the engine fire risk. How many owners are looking to get rid of their Maverick now, or how many waiting to get the recall taken care of? Honestly when I heard about that, I started looking.

Of the 125,000 recalls, 35,001 were Mavericks. Among those 125,000, there were 23 reports of the loud clanking sound and hood smoke with 3 cases of actual fires. No reports I could find on how many of those were Mavericks. The thing that would make me consider selling is if the recall fix seems unsatisfactory. I don’t want some vague reason covered up by an extended warranty. If the recall solution makes sense then no reason to sell.

Not me, not sure why this would make anyone worried, if you want a safe vehicle go back to the 70's
Did I read that last part right? "If you want a safe vehicle go back to the '70's"? Even the smallest, cheapest car today is FAR safer than the best cars from the '70s...

But as for being "worried" about the "fire risk recall" - I'm not concerned. Odds are ridiculously low, with a total of 23 vehicle fires out of all the 2.5L hybrid engines Ford has delivered world-wide. My initial calculations showed it was something like 0.09% odds, but that was just based on Maverick numbers, I didn't include all the Escapes, Corsairs, etc. that had this engine...
Yeah, odds are very low and I'm not worried but I still take a sniff under the hood now and then

This is the second recall for this issue. The first solution seemed like it was crafted by lawyers: drill holes and remove louvres. Seemed destructive to me, so I didn’t have it done.

Now they’re going to do something else, but they don’t know what. We’re going to have to wait and see what that something is, in order get a sense of how serious the risk is, and what action is warranted, if any.

Not getting rid of mine and not that worried.
HOWEVER. As a technician I'm very interested: What's that "loud bang, and where is the oil coming from? I'd like to inspect it.

From everything I've read, the issue is related to a crankshaft journal that is polished incorrectly, thereby potentially causing the crankshaft bearing to fail. The "loud bang" is the crankshaft bearing failing, taking the crank and/or piston rod with it. The oil and coolant leak would be coming from the hole the piston rod punched in the engine case when it broke. It should be "fairly noticeable" and would definitely result in a "loss of power" so it would be clear it was time to pull over and stop...

First my transmission failed and had to be replaced, which took over 30 days, now a potential engine rebuild/replacement - no way am I keeping it.

Your risk of getting in an accident are much higher than worrying about this recall. Same with the air bag mess.
Except, I still have all that other risk, with this on top of it.

I find myself fantasizing about an electric Mini Cooper (I've had four regular Minis), even though I really need them to make it get more than 114miles on a charge. LOL. But we also need a pickup. Sigh.

I agree, most people would pull over and stop after throwing a rod through the block- Gotta remember, some folks are clueless and would continue driving on electric power long enough for the oil to smoke heavily and catch fire...

So should we continue driving it, but not long drives, still confusing as many hybrid owners aren’t bothered by this, I personally have had no issues since getting my xlt last October. I just had my 10k service and they did some software update and not sure way at that was for. I mentioned the fire issue but a fix was not ready available at this time.
