Question: Hybrid engine moves within engine bay

I new one for me, but I happened to be showing the Maverick off. Had the hood up and open when brother was just putting the truck in R and rolling a bit, stopping, D, rolling a bit. The entire Atkinson Cycle + ECVT block rotates with starting and stopping (rocking?) within the engine bay. Normal? Did some digging on discussins and videos about the hybrid motor and drive train. Can't find any mention (or missed it) about this "feature"?

Yes, mine does it quite a bit. I'm gonna repost a video shortly. Took it to my dealer. Dealer said it is normal. They said they compared mine to an unsold one on the lot; and both behaved the same. While odd looking, it is apparently engineered to do this.

I was hoping that was the case. Make sense for a laterally mounted engine mating to the complex transmission on this thing (in my head). But definitely caught me off guard. It is a bit unsettling to see! But also...pretty damn cool from an engineering standpoint!

That is how you ensure all the rats/mice/cats/raccoons/opossums are shaken out of the engine bay before they can be injured.

I would assume with the torque to the wheels, having a stiff connection would lead to structural issues down the line. I think all the cars I've ever owned had movement from the engine when throttle was applied.

That’s actually a really cool video and engineering. I haven’t even opened the hood on the Mav; it scares me! This truck continues to impress me. I hope it last as long as my 20+ year old Ranger Edge that I traded for the Mav.

It moves under normal use.

To accentuate the motion I was pressing gas (a little) and brake at the same time. Not really abuse or anything. Probably most people do it once in a while but never with the hood open!

There would be way more movement than that if the engine mounts failed, so I'm not seeing anything unusual here.

Good video. I like the term "rocking" as a description. When reversing, it will rotate forward toward grill. And moving forward, rotates back toward cabin. Really pretty cool (as long as the tubing and wiring connected to fixed pts don't wear down too rapidly).
