Methinks that would be short sighted, as the people most likely to buy a scale model of a Ford Maverick are more likely to be those who own one that's full size..

Young kids seem to want something flashy rather than practical, and teens only want to look at their phones.

The "typical" buyers of these models used to be kids, but these days, the buyers are the same now grown up adults who bought them back in the day. The most common demographic for Matchbox car buyers are adult collectors, hobbyists, and automotive enthusiasts, and adults who buy the cars for their kids.

What used to be kids toys are now central to rather large collection and resale businesses.

In any case, businesses that stay in business do so by producing products that people actually buy, and if there is an expressed demand, it would not make business sense to ignore that.

Mass produced toys, not collectibles. In 2024 I sold my 1960s Matchbox and original Hot Wheels at an estate sale. Why? I had moved them from home to home collecting dust for no good reason. The memories from them are still in my mind. It was time to de-clutter my life, start anew. They were worth exactly what someone would pay. That being said the police were called over 2 grown men in a fist fight over the 1968 Barracuda Hot Wheel in bad condition, lol. Maybe you are right the grown ups are the real children.

Some of those models are worth a LOT to collectors, and boys will always like their toys...

My wife's prior late husband had collected bunch of them, and are few are in the "valuable" category. Like you say, those cars and everything else are worth just what someone is willing to pay for them, and in some cases, that can be a lot, and in others just a couple of bucks.
