Hey all, my wife and I took her maverick on a recent road trip.we stopped at a dollar general and when she got back in she put her purse between the seats. I put the truck in reverse to back out of our parking spot and it wasn't moving. Before I realized what happened, she moved her purse and the truck started backing up before I realized it. Thinking I was still stopped I could have backed into something. Just a heads up....

Some details missing in that story.

To engage the parking brake, you have to pull up on the lever. Pushing down (with the regular brake held) releases it or hitting the accelerator fairly hard.

Maybe her purse hit the auto hold button?
Iam sure you are correct, I dont usually drive her maverick. Probably the " auto hold". my 16 year old ram doesn't have all this modern tech.

There may have just been enough inclined to activate the Hill Assist which is only active for about 3 seconds.
As mentioned above #2 by "CNJFF"
Possibly the auto brake button was pushed when the purse was put on the console.

Also if the auto hold or parking brake are turned on and you put in gear then push the gas for a couple seconds it will turn off the park brake and start to move.

Turning off while your foot is on the brake will engage parking brake.

No auto-EPB engagement by that method on 24MY.
Even been on steep hill - nothing auto.

Thx, apparently the auto hold was accidentally engaged.

I recall a thread where this was discussed. I tried on several steep streets to get it to engage automatically on a 24. But just last week on 2 different occasions it DID engage automatically will I shifted to P on a sloped area. I have tried since at the same locations and it has not engaged on it's own. I chocked it up to a snafu but I am keeping my awareness up to see if a problem is starting to occur.

Now you got me concerned it's supposed to happen on pre-25MY and it's been an issue I didn't know about.

I'm sure most manuals in the past said something like this, even if not so dire.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PRECAUTIONS

Ford Maverick Parking brake {filename}
WARNING: Apply the parking brake, shift into park (P), switch the vehicle off and remove the key or remote control before you leave your vehicle. Failure to follow this instruction could result in personal injury or death.

Hmmmm - without fully pressing brake?
PARK (P)

Ford Maverick Parking brake {filename}
WARNING: Shift into park (P) only when your vehicle is stationary.
In park (P) power is not transmitted to the driven wheels.
Note: A tone sounds if you attempt to exit your vehicle without the vehicle in park (P).
Note: Your vehicle may not shift out of park (P) if the 12 V battery has run out of charge.
Note: Your vehicle may not shift out of park (P) if a fuse is blown.
Note: Your vehicle may not shift out of park (P) unless the key or remote control is inside your vehicle.
Note: The electronic parking brake could apply when you power your vehicle on with the selector in park (P).
Note: The electronic parking brake could apply if you shift to park (P) without fully pressing the brake pedal.
Note: The electronic parking brake could apply if you shift to park (P) on a slope.
Note: Do not manually release the parking brake when the selector is in park (P). See Automatically Releasing the Electric Parking Brake.
Note: Your vehicle could shift into park (P) if you attempt to exit your vehicle without the transmission in park (P). See Automatic Return to Park (P).

Same here. My parking brake never automatically engages. I made a video showing it not automatically engaging.
And I knew I was definitely on an incline.

It's modern technology,
People have to educate themselves to be.... well.... at least as smart as the car 😁

Good point - I don't recall hearing a tone when I've accidentally undone seat belt and opened door prior to going to Park.

So much in that list a "may" or "could" - can't really count on much for sure.

Except the odd ball one - what!
Note: Do not manually release the parking brake when the selector is in park (P). See Automatically Releasing the Electric Parking Brake.

25MY manual says the same things.

Even the Auto-Hold feature when enabled, says this - so there should be 2 lights if EPB is being used.
Note: Under certain conditions, the system could apply the electric parking brake. The brake system warning lamp illuminates. The electric parking brake releases when you press the accelerator pedal.
