That’s the only way I can get the ebrake to auto engage on flat land.
I did not know it would do this. I am so use to old style cars I never would have thought to try.

Be careful driving other cars you can get use to the automation. Auto headlights have me spoiled and I almost forget to turn them on with an other car I was driving and I did forget to turn them off, I looked back at the car and remembered it was not like the maverick and went back to turn the lights off.

Give it a shot. Its like a cheat code to auto engage the e brake. I also don’t roll up the windows but that’s because the handy lock button to auto roll them up.

Auto roll up windows? How?

I guess I don't know half the things my truck can do.

So you’re saying it will only be a user error. No potential long term mechanical issues with these steps.
User error.

Those systems all do their thing under a few scenarios, they are just mimicking what one would normally do manual on a soft switch, but someone forgets to manually do them. Like turning off a headlight/headlamp and locking up. It'll auto-turn off after a while. Headlamp will "spin" the dial back to auto like the gear selector back to park.
Well until a software glitch causes them not to be auto-done.

Sounds like his mind was already set when he posted. Hope he gets an answer he's waiting on from those ford engineers

My mind is set but I’m asking if anyone knows if it will cause long term damage!!!! Seems like the answer is no.

I always put the parking brake on before I shift to park, that way it's the parking brake holding the vehicle still instead of the transmission.
Just don’t manually release the parking brake.

That’s fine and all but speed2000 had an excellent point in his post to actually put brake on before to keep pressure/tension OFF the transmission. An excellent point to prevent long term damage to transmission

I think it seems like when I open the door like that the brake goes on but vehicle is still in D with my foot on the brake. Only after I turn off the ignition does it then move into p. So I think it’s all a legit way to do things. Just feels weird opening the door to have ebrake turn on. Ok I’m just. Gonna go to a dealer and ask.

Good grief, are we so lazy that we can't manually apply a parking brake? A handle has been provided for your convenience. Select park, parking brake, exit. There, that wasn't so hard.

Goal is to get parking brake to auto engage. That won’t happen if I put in park. My process seems to work. Just want to make sure the ford engineers that read this have no issue with it.
I've never seen any of them comment on this forum (member since 2021).

The auto engage was meant for safety- so someone doesn't get run over if they fall out of the truck. Honestly if you're on flat ground I wouldn't worry about the brake, the parking pawl will keep the vehicle from moving.
