Check engine light came on, read the codes and came back with P2C22. Light subsequently turned off before I was able to get into the dealer.

Finally dropped it off and they confirmed the stored code and replaced the heat exchanger. There is a service bulletin on it. https://ford.oemdtc.com/12704/2-5l-...37d-stored-in-the-pcm-2022-2023-ford-maverick

Took less than 24hrs to order and replace. The warranty cost for parts and labor was just over $1k.

I had it happen around the same mileage. It took over 2 months to diagnose and get parts to fix! Looks like Ford is getting its shit together.

I got the other variant a few days ago.

Went away on it's own after a couple of days.

If it's still stored, you should bring it in ASAP. Don't want to be stuck with it out of warranty.

That's one of the two parts that I was worried about in the whole drivetrain. Lots of people appear to be having this fail, and its very unfortunate that some idiot at Ford decided that it should be welded into the one-piece exhaust, maximizing the repair costs for a commonly-failing part. The engine is rock solid, tested by Mazda and Ford for 23 years now. It doesn't even have a starter, alternator or any belts to break. The transmission has been well tested by Ford and Toyota since 1997, with no clutchpacks or bands to wear out like a hydraulic one. The battery is kept around 50% charge, which should maximize its life. The other part that has me worried are the Hyundai-built halfshafts that seem to be undersized at least for the EB drivetrain and can't handle even a mild 1" liftkit.

I believe recent posts have indicated that Ford no longer has to replace the entire exhaust system for this repair. Also, no longer have the supply constraints for the parts to fix it.

I can confirm. I got the check engine yesterday. Took it in today, they diagnosed and said they will have the part Wednesday. I asked if they had to replace the entire exhaust and he said no.

at 13860 miles. Dealer has appointment set for Thursday but being told that diagnostic will happen three weeks later. Have the Ford extended warranty but warranty car reimbursement is only 10 calendar days. What use is warranty if you have to wait nearly a month or more for service or parts. I think Ford should extend warranty terms for long waits.

Mileage dropped from average 41 to 36 mpg.

This seems to be a major failure point in the mavericks aroung 15 thousand miles.

** Update **
Talked with Ford customer chat support. Was basically told it was not thier problem but the dealerships. But, but, my warranty is thru Ford not the dealership right?

You echoed all of the reasons I bought the hybrid. I had an Escape with the MZR engine that was trouble-free for ~300,000 miles (and still going strong with the current owner).

That said, my Maverick left me stranded more times and was out of service more than all of my previous vehicles combined, and I've been driving over 40 years.

P2C22 error:

2022 Hybrid Lariat just coded this. Check Engine light came on, no change in performance, but light would stay coded. 42K miles, took to Leith Ford Wendell. Dealer tried to submit the parts from the SSM 51921 into the Warranty claim software Ford uses, no luck. Apparently this Hybrid-only component is not covered by the hybrid warranty, only the base warranty... unlucky this happened to me 6K miles too late... Dealer did complete the fix per the SSM and $1300 later is working fine now.

Thanks for the heads up! As some on that thread mentioned, I am in the US (not sure if that ever came to any US owners) and that program says there are certain time and distance limitations of the one-time replacement (I was at 2.5 yrs and 42K miles). Thanks!

Did you have an extended warranty or just the 3/36k? I bought the extended warranty, wondering if it would’ve been covered.

How is service at your dealer? I bought at Capital Ford in Raleigh but haven’t had a reason to go to a dealer yet. I’m in NE Raleigh.

I've in the same area but closer to Leith Wendell. I've gone for a "free" oil change, some recalls, and now this heat exchanger (as well as some additional recalls). They have done "ok" but often it will take days to get your vehicle back. This time, I left it with them for a week to complete recalls/heat exchanger and their email comms were good, but I was upfront that they only had a week and I would need it back. I've called around a few dealers but it seems Ford Service is tough to come by in our area.

I am just speculating here and don't actually know if this should fall under the hybrid warranty but 1) maybe warrant paid out $ vs you paying $$$ and 2) in the past the whole exhaust system needed replaced for this repair, while back they came out with a service part that should be fraction of cost / labor.

$1300 sound like they did full exhaust , or at least billed you for it.
