I have two other Fords and use the keypad all the time. It was one reason why I wanted a Maverick. I still don't know if my 23XLT will happen. If I end up with a 24XLT I won't get the add on keypad because I don't want to worry about the battery.

Not true.
I've tested this on my 2022 Lariat hybrid. Left the window down and the Keyfob inside the truck. Got out of the truck and locked it with the keypad. After five to 10 minutes, I went back and crawled through the window and was able to push to start the truck and drive off without ever unlocking the doors or touching the keyfob.

The reason I tested this was because I heard the keyfob was NOT supposed to work when left inside and the truck locked with the keypad.

Still need to order one of those Faraday pouches from Amazon.
Don't think that's really what anyone was getting at.

The door handle will not respond/unlock when you grab it if the fob is locked inside. The front doors are designed to detect the IA fob on the outside of the vehicle in close proximity to said door.

The ignition detects whether the fob is inside the vehicle (though technically it'll also pick it up at least through an open door just outside the vehicle, at least if the fob battery is sufficiently charged).

Did you try stashing the fob in the glove box, for instance, and then opening a door?

Note also that in the configuration you specify - window down, fob inside - the doors will not unlock after a brief inactivity timeout. It will display a message on the IPC display indicating something along the lines of "switches inhibited". You'll need to use the keypad or fob to unlock the vehicle, you cannot simply smash a window and grab the inside door handle. If you leave the fob visible with the window down, yeah, someone might reach/climb in to grab it. If you leave it visible with the window up, they might smash the window. But you can't unlock the doors until you get to that fob.

If you were leaving the fob in the vehicle, you'd want to leave it out of sight, and some might go so far as to put it in a faraday cage pouch.

I understand the doors won't unlock with Intelligent access when the key is in the truck, and it is locked with the keypad.

Maybe I was misunderstanding "the vehicle ignores that key completely " when locking with the keypad. It works, as designed, as far as Intelligent assess is concerned. With push to start though, they can technically break out a window, climb in, and drive off if the key is in the truck somewhere, if you don't have the Perimeter Plus alarm add on, which would set off the alarm.

Odds are low for this I would think, but thieves probably know this as well so I suppose I could happen.

The keypad is still listed for 2024 builds.
🤷🏻‍♂️
I'm guessing that's an error, Ford probably didn't update it to remove it. The pictures of the truck on Ford's website don't show the keypad even on the Lariat.

Yep it was great. Was just mentioning it as you said you only used it to unlock the door then reached in to pop the trunk. Also, and I think this is still the case, hitting 7 and 9 together lock the doors.
If you hit the 5/6 button, it would even pop the trunk...was nice on cars...

@fordvideoguy mentioned last night that Ford is looking for feedback on the SecuriCode Keyless-Entry Keypad removal from the Maverick.

Personally, I think it is a mistake. I have used the function multiple times with the Escape, especially when kayaking or hiking. It allows me to leave not only my keys, but the keys of my envious non-Ford friends locked and safe without having to worry about losing them. And as a $50 add-on, its not like Ford is breaking the bank by adding it. I even made sure it was included on the Maverick Lariat before I even placed an order.

The Keypad is quintessential Ford as I remember my grandparents having on their Taurus from forever ago. As a teen, I was constantly sent to go get something out of their vehicle by using the keypad. The Drive even accused GM of copying the tech. To not offer it at all on the Maverick, even on the Lariat, is a shame and Ford should reverse their course.

What are your thoughts, knowing that @Ford Motor Company will likely be reading this feedback? Should Ford keep/offer the SecuriCode Keyless-Entry Keypad, even if it raised the price by $50-$100?

I would gladly play extra, we have one on our ‘12 Fusion, ‘17 Escape, and ‘22 Maverick, our family of car sharers use them ALL the time!

I have not broken the windows of my wife's Escape to test and I'm too big to fit through its windows like that. Only that the key is ignored for unlocking the door and you need the other key or use the keypad for that key to register again.

If someone is so dedicated enough to steal it, having the key stashed will be immaterial.

I agree that professional car thieves are going to get your vehicle but they're certainly not going to target a Maverick. you can't just justify a silly risk like leaving a key inside by saying a pro is going to get it regardless.

it's actually just how easy you've made it for those who aren't pros.

anyone breaking into your Maverick is statistically likely to be a petty thief and drug addict. they will go through the glovebox, center armrest console, lower console, door pockets and possibly they will even know to lift the rear bench. they will probably find the fob and then they'll drive off and strip whatever they can, use it to commit another crime, or just joyride and ditch it. none of which is good for you.

Petty thieves are generally not targeting kayakers and hikers, which is the use case I've ever left my key in the vehicle. They run through neighborhoods and even then, most will take advantage of an unlocked car first as breaking windows draws attention.

I do not endorse leaving your key in the vehicle at all times.

it may be slightly off topic but still keypad related . my daughter has a 2011 Escape that the dealer wants over $150 to recover and or reprogram the keypad. i seem to remember that it was always written somewhere on the vehicles. under the hood, inside the door panel but somewhere. can the community come thru for me once again? or will i just have to pay them.
I found one in the spare tool cubby

Absolutely IDIOTIC & STUPID idea for Ford to drop it. That feature was and will always be a lifesaver to someone who has it. And when I was selling cars, in the hay day, it was a feature that everyone who came in looking for whatever it may be, Taurus, Fusion, Crown Vic, Explorer, Escape, you name it, they LOVED IT. Was a massive selling feature I actively demonstrated to everyone who didn't know about it. And when I would say no one else had this feature, it helped close a few sales I won't lie.

I use my keypad almost daily. When my wife and I would go to the beach for a day, the keys would be hidden in the car. You don't want to lose keys on a beach, let me tell you. For them to get rid of it, but add useless other features is beyond me.

So glad my oder got pulled and I got the email, so I'll get a keypad. To he honest, CEO Jim Farley ISN'T IT!!!

On the crown Vic(I’d bet it’s similar on the Taurus) after you typed the code I think if you hit “3” it popped the trunk IIRC.
Nope, "3/4" unlocked the rest of the doors (code did the drivers door). "5/6" popped the trunk. 👍

16 months with a keypad and we’ve never used it, I didn’t read the previous 9 pages so I’m not sure what the purpose of the keypad is. I don’t even know the number to use it.

Yeah IIRC means if I remember correctly which is an admission of a possible misspeak.
