New motortrend review: 2022 Ford Maverick Pros and Cons Review: A Small Truck With a Big Impact (motortrend.com)

Interesting piece is they list their 0-90 times by 10mph intervals, and it appears as though the hybrid is faster from 60-90 and 45-65. Begs the question: Hybrid better for passing on the highway?

Does the Ecoboost not lay down it's extra 60 horses that well? I'm thrilled that it looks like the hybrid is going to be more competent than I thought. It looks like, based on these numbers, the hybrid will be faster than the Ecoboost on anything other than drag racing. What an interesting development.

I'm hoping this hybrid is going to save me lots of money down the road, too. ($1000 up front, $500ish/year for gas, less frequent brake pads, less frequent oil changes, no belts, etc...)

With each passing review I get more and more excited for my MavBrid (which has no build date in sight) and less excited for my Bronco (build week 1/17).

Seems like the longer the Bronco is around - more issues are discovered.

The more the Maverick Hybrid gets reviewed - the more praise continues to roll in.

Yeah. It's a pleasant surprise and I'd like to see more side by side comps.

Also, I think it's interesting that the hybrid is so far behind at 40mph. I think a lot of us expected the opposite. Makes me wonder if there actually limiting the power a bit at lower speeds and with some minor changes if it would be faster overall.

I think there's two reasons it's down at 40. #1 AWD VS. FWD
#2 the hybrid is always in it's top gear.

Vs.

And

Hybrid FTW, unless you own an Ecoboost, then yes, your car is better than a hybrid in every imaginable ready

Does anyone seriously select the Mav model they want based on a drag race? Sure, it's great to see the numbers (which will vary truck to truck, btw...), kind of fun but pretty useless to apply to anything meaningful. With numbers so close, it's a drivers race anyway.

What do you think would happen if Ford offered the Mav with an AWD hybrid w/4K tow?

*THIS* is the (main) reason buyers are choosing the 2.0 over the 2.5; to get AWD & 4K tow.

For what it's worth, I took an EcoBoost for a test drive briefly, I have a Hybrid on order and wasn't interesting in the speed or Highway performance. I just wanted to get a feel for the handling and I liked it. My current car, 2010 Yaris is small and nimble so I wasn't expecting it to be *that* nimble but I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't seem that far off...though it will take some getting used to riding *that* high off the ground but my wife complains that she feels like she's sitting on the street in my car.

Look out everyone, this "country boy" got the ecoboost instead of the hybrid!

Not 1k in the bed 0-60, but they did a "frustration test"
Frustration test - is that the long drive with the spouse wanting to listen to their music the entire time? If so, been there done that.

The 2.5 is a better motor than the 2.0. It will cost less to maintain. The 2.5 hybrid will undoubtedly get much better fuel economy which is important when gas gets $6 a gallon. I'll give up less than a second in acceleration for this. Unless your towing heavier loads and absolutely need all wheel drive...the hybrid is the way to go.
