I'd rather have the pull out tailgate step, but that's not bad. Anything that allows you to have a lower step than the tailgate itself, I'm all for it. They don't make the under bumper mounted ones for the Maverick. I miss mine on my previous truck.

Maverick's tail gate is so tiny already. No need to make it with a door feature. Ford could spend our money on better things....Like a larger screen, push button start, better stock speakers, etc..

I'd love to retrofit my F-250 with this new tailgate, but it seems silly for the Maverick since it's tailgate opens so low already.

I'm in the camp that feels this is unnecessary on a Maverick.

At 6'0" I can easily put things up to 40-50 pounds over the tail gate or side of the bed without issue, and when the tailgate is lowered it's way lower than a F150 (especially Tremor as shown in that article) and it's no issue to load it.

I don't see the bumper step shown being feasible on a Maverick because of reduced ground clearance. Dragging it on a steep driveway would be no fun. I can easily climb into the bed with the tailgate down.

However, if they wanted to do the bumper steps that are just notches in the corners of the rear bumper, that would be useful and welcome. Let's do that, and make the tailgate damper standard equipment on XLT and up, instead of this.

I'm guessing Honda has a patent for the way they do their tailgate and Stellantic has one for theirs, so Ford had to do this weird way... I don't thinks it's necessary for the Maverick, but if I had a choice, the way Honda does it is the best way imo.

Seems like a 1/2 solve to something that isn't really a problem. I'd use the back seat or back seat under storage for anything I'd use that baby door for.

I wouldn't pay for the option and I'd be pissed if it became standard because you pay for that in higher base price.

Honda may have patent for the dual hinged tailgate, but Ford filed for the patent in 1966, that expired in 1985:

Maybe all of these patents held back the car companies from making double hinged tailgate, that would explain why they started to come out with these tailgates in the late 2010s, or early 2020s... Or maybe my patents lookup sort of rusty?

I do like the Ridgeline tailgate but not real keen on the baby door. If they want to copy something how about the trunk/ice chest in the bed of the Ridgeline?

Seriously though - did you see the prices for the new F-150? Hell - have you priced a 2023? For me to get the same options XLT + lux you need $50k just to start the conversation. If I want a Tremor with the 5.0 I'm looking at $65k.

Hard no. I'll Cobb AP my Tremor, add a suspension, bigger tires, pay someone $10k to fabricate diamond plated skids.......and I'll still have $20k in the bank.

Yeah, the prices on the new '24 F150 are certifiably insane. I got all hot & bothered with the new Tremor, until I saw the price.....$68K BASE, +$10K for the 402pkg. Yikes! Maybe if I was still working....but certainly NOT worth going back to work for!

As to the new F150 split tailgate, they needed something to keep up with the Jones's. I still prefer the RAM 60/40 design, but the Ford is certainly more appealing than the GM party gate. And I agree, I don't think it makes sense for a Mav, since the Mav is already so small. If Ford wanted to do something for the Mav, a dual action design similar to the Ridgeline would probably make the most sense. But I'm good with the way it is, especially being so easy to completely remove.

The ZR2 Colorado I had ordered was $53k and some people are paying more almost $60k for basically stickers and bolts on's plus the GMC brand and it's mark up for "luxury" will bring them to almost $65k (It's the same crap in the Colorado's).

That is a "mid sized truck".

No effing way. I thought I'd enjoy it but the more I learned sitting there waiting for my order the more I had questions and concerns. It's never really been about price with me because that's the range my full size trucks have costed in the past, but they offer SO MUCH more. Even still, that is base cost now. Again, no effing way I'm paying $50k and getting cloth seats and crap.

But I do like the bumper on the non ZR2 model Colorado's with it's step:

Very practical and the perfect position. This step paired with the storage in the tailgate they offer is pretty awesome. Pair that with the already neat setup of the Maverick bed and it's storage options and I think it would be perfect, especially for older folks or disabled grunts like me

Yea, the Maverick is lower, but another step is always helpful. I don't enjoy jumping up and down anymore. Hell, the only reason I did it previously was because the Army made me
