Horror stories like this were the main reason I passed on the Air bag recall! The Ford service advisor even told me that he wouldn’t have it done if it was his vehicle!!

I feel for you, I worked for dealer for 40 years and would of tried to talk you out of doing this job But to late for that, I didn't do the air bag recall for this reason on my 22 FX4, I know what happens when you take down a headliner, out of the 27 Techs I had there may have been 2 that could of done this job right and their always tied up on big jobs. Theres not much you can do except ask to speak to the owner if the service manager is not helping you, they should replace all damaged parts at the least, am sure they would put their best tech on the job after all this, but don't let them do the dash over, all else fails you can set a appointment with area manager he works for Ford not the dealer, he might want to meet you at a different dealer. You can't get good help in this field unfortunately; I started sweeping floors in a shop for 3 bucks a hour at 15, yes am old, I didn't touch a car for year as least then very minor stuff, I just watched and helped out and started buying tools with all the money I made, that don't happen anymore.
I was also reluctant to have the Headliner recall done- Waited a couple months, spoke to my dealer and said we have done a few of them already and after doing a couple they knew it wasn't the 2-3 hour job ford quoted out. Felt ok about moving forward, of course the day mine went in the guy who had done 2 or 3 called out sick. Three days later I got my truck back with the headliner popping out in multiple places, grease marks and a halfway attached grab handle. Luckily no scratches but it did take two trips and service manager discussions to get the unit re-fitted and cleaned, still not perfect but much less tragic than others.

When at dealership for oil change check in they didn't mention recalls, when I did had a few minor ones again didn't mention air bags when I did he gave me that look, he knew I worked at dealership retired now, I had no intention of doing it just wanted to see his reaction, he knew I was anal about my cars/truck didn't say a word just kept shaking his head trying to send me a message.I had a technician used to change his uniform and fresh gloves when working inside a vehicle and put all parts on moving blanket he'd cover interior with sheets he stole from his mother all parts in baggies unfortunately for him he got all the dashboards and sunroof repairs and big Christmas bonus, never had leftover parts. You can't find guys like that.

Back in 1989 when I had my Ford Taurus I ordered floor mats through the dealership. The dealership sent me a card saying they had arrived. When I went into the parts department to pick them up they wouldn't release them to me, because they were holding them for their mechanic. Turns out the mechanic and I both shared First and uncommon Last name's, but no relationship.
We became good friends and he always worked on my car.

* I don't know if I would trust a mechanic who stole from his mother.😉

That sounds really frustrating. I, like others, have been through auto automated assembly lines and usually items like the dash are installed before seats, trim, windshields, etc....so installation of some components, like the dash, may be exceptionally difficult after things like steering wheels, wind shield, etc. Remembering the Porsche factory tour, the front seats were two of the last things installed.....

I would wager that getting all the scratches on the plastics, and some of those damaged trim piece will be very difficult to get the dealer to agree to replace...you might consider asking the dealer to give you a compromised offer to trade-in/replace you Maverick with a "newer" one. You both might be better off in the long run.

From all the scratches and damage, it looks like someone had made your Maverick a daily driver and abused it. A good reason to take pictures of odometer, interior and exterior of a vehicle when delivered...I always do that on rental cars.

Holy Crap (no punn intended), are you sure they gave you YOUR vehicle back?
You're a better man than I am, I would have lost it. Don't let up on them, keep them on the hook and tell them to make it right, no matter what.

Besides my Maverick, I have another ford truck, and I've taken it to Ford for maintenance, the truck is a mess, it's a work truck, I'm a contractor, and they cover the seats, the floor, everything, I laugh because they're worried about messing up my work truck, inside me, I'm saying to myself, I hope they don't mess up their own clothes when they climb in.

What should I do? I’m so upset about this. I wish they never touched my truck. They did more harm, than good to my truck.

# 1. Call the police and report vandalsm.
#2. only deal in writing. You want promises in writing.
#3 call you insurance company.. -Vandalism.
#4. you want the name of the ZONE manager and his address phone #. Email.
At least yo have pictures..

Post the name of the dealership..right here right now..

Let the insurance claim go after the dealer... Take it to a shop elsewhere..

My 22 Maverick the dash was rattling and so was the passenger side front seat so I brought it into the Ford dealer for inspection
They call me back and say they are going to replace the dash. I was not expecting that at all…
My gut told me to tell them to NOT replace the dash but they said no we got this and can fix it no problem.
They called me at 4pm this past Monday. I told my advisor I’ll pick her up tomorrow morning so that I can fill up the gas and whatnot with their rental.
42 days later I finally pickup my truck.
They gave me a loaner 2025 Ford Escape
3-cylinder turbo for the entire duration.
You know what I did? I spent yesterday morning for a couple hours washing and vacuuming their Escape before going to get my Maverick back so their car looked mint when I brought it back.
I was expecting the same decency with my Maverick.
So I do the paperwork with them and give them their keys back and they hand me my keys and say I’m good to go. Your Maverick is parked out front.
I walk out to my car and walk up to it and was immediately in total, utter disgust. Keep in mind I keep my car waxed and mint on a regular basis.L

Here is what I walked out to my car and how she looked upon pickup:

1. Bird poop ALL over my car and I’m not talking one or two/three bird droppings. It was absolutely covered. Like a giant carnivore bird crapped out an entire rodent or somthing on my car and they didn’t even bother to wash it?
Unreal. All over a $700 Tonneau cover.

2. The new dashboard is scratched and so is glove box and my center console.

3. They put deep scratches in my garage kept, never even seen winter, super low miles 14,xxx Maverick’s paint that are DEEP and most of them are all the way through to the bare metal… 😭

4. the door seal is now incorrectly installed on both front doors (laying on top of the other seal and not butted up like it’s supposed to be) and it’s TORN/RIPPED… 😭😡

5. The new dashboard rattles worse than the original one did over bumps.

6. There was a mysterious “bonus/extra” orange clip just laying in drink holder next to the gear selector.

7. They left multiple clips left hanging and not attached to where they go (under seat and under dash. Which makes you wonder if there’s more stuff you can not see, that’s left not correctly installed. Like behind the dash…

8. The headliner is now dirty and it’s exposed on the driver side from being tucked under the seal.

9. I think my hood was left open a long time because it has bird poop under the hood and is very dirty / dusty now.

10. Now when you drive the car, it smells like burning oil coming from the engine bay.

11. The Windshield wiper cowl is now not sitting flush / is misaligned with the windshield which will allow water/ debris to freely go into the gap/space.

I’m absolutely shocked and horrified.
I did talk to the manger and he did say we will make it right with me. Which I do appreciate. However for the dealer to even let my truck end up like this and than leave like this, is absolutely shocking.

I show the service advisor all of the issues and he instructs me to go sit in waiting room while he talks to the manager. Maybe an hour or more passes and he comes back and says you can bring it back on the 9th and we will fix it all. Get a load of this. They were going to have me leave with the truck just like this. All covered in bird poop and filthy.
So I ask to talk to the manager myself.
The service advisor says ok and instructs me to wait in the waiting room for him. The advisor finally comes back and says he’s in a meeting can he just call you later? I replied no I want to talk to him and show him everything myself. So I wait another hour! Manager finally comes down and I show him everything. He tells me he owns a Maverick also and apologized. He asked me if I wanted it cleaned before I take it home. I said yes. He said give us 20 minutes and I’ll have to back to you. About 20/30 min goes by and all they cleaned off was the bird poop off the tonneau cover…
So I was at the dealer for almost 4 hours for all of this. Now I have to bring it back on the 9th and get another loaner while they supposedly “fix” it.

Hard lesson learned…. Don’t let anyone touch your car. Not even the dealer.
I’m a very talented car detailer and know how to turn wenches and fix stuff.
I would have NEVER EVER left someone’s car like this in this kinda condition…

It’s so easily to carefully remove a door seal and NOT tear it and it’s very easy to know how to “fit” a door seal so it fits correctly and does NOT overlap and lay on top of each other….
That’s common sense basics right there.
So I’m in utter disbelief and heart broken.

My poor first year Maverick w/ factory options that’s they no longer even come with. She kinda a rare truck being velocity blue hybrid XLT with Luxury package and the painted mirrors and only 14,000 miles…. That has never seen winter and was garage kept and babied its whole life. She didn’t deserve this.

What should I do? I’m so upset about this. I wish they never touched my truck. They did more harm, than good to my truck.

After reading this i'm glad i got rid of the 2023 BS BB i had that had a Bad Dash Rattle and didn't have the Dealership try to fix it. And i also had the System Off To Save Battery come up at least 3 Times a week when it was cold out a Fuel Gauge that would never register Full only 7/8's of a Tank and a bunch of Recalls.

The OP can take it to any dealership he wants for the repairs, but he'd have to pay for it out of his pocket.
Due to the fact that the work was already started by the original dealer and they got warranty payment for it.

It seems the OP Maybe working with the original dealership to correct all the problems.
I wish him good luck.
With the new dashboard being scratched and both driver and passenger side door sills have fresh scratches in the paint that are all the way through to the bare metal, is enough proof of everything I’m saying. They had to take the seats and the dash out and consequently my vehicle was damaged in that process. It’s obvious with the damage that’s on the new dash and the damage that is consistent with the work that was performed.
Plus the dealer already admitted fault because they even know it was all done by them. It’s that obvious. They admitted guilt and offered to repair it and an apology.
If the new dash wasn’t all scratched up, I would agree with you. With the new dash being all scratched up, and it was like this upon pickup, is proof that this happened on their watch and during the repair.

Another dealer won't touch this for free, unless Ford authorizes repairs ahead of time. And that's like pulling teeth.

I have had mostly good experiences at dealers over the years, and I am old. There have been the occasional horror show, for sure. I do change my own oil oftentimes, and I can do many things myself, but unless you are a crack mechanic or have a great local guy, I believe that the dealers really do the best job overall.

I just had my Escape Hybrid in for The Works (I haven’t done oil changes on this car) and it was right before the 60k PT warranty expired. They told me they found 2 oil leaks on the motor that were covered. They fixed them fine but when I was checking the oil 3-4 days later I noticed they forgot to replace the engine cover on top. I called them and they managed to find it in the shop, and they quickly popped it back on during a return visit. I wonder how that would have played out if more time had elapsed.

Interesting story, sounds like you picked a completely incompetent dealer.

Just depends how much effort & aggravation you're willing to endure, to get it fixed.

Good luck.
No this is most Ford dealers. I hate bringing my vehicles to dealers for service because there's no pride in work anymore. Impossible to avoid the dealer with any modern Ford due to the ridiculous amount of recalls. I also had a very annoying dash rattle and everyone said bring it in and you can check my comments, I said that it would just be worse than before and this post proves that many ways. Ford has become a terrible company, glad I jumped ship, I'll never go back.
