First time truck stuff, need advice on transport

Moving a 2.5' by 8ft' box. Its only 150lbs.

With the tailgate down the bed is 6'. I can put the box in the bed and strap it a bunch right? Id assume some straps over the box itself, then a strap around the part that is sticking out so its "holding in" the box.

Anything else I should do for security? Should i put anything between the box and the SIBL? Im good with going overboard on security if needed

sounds like you have it covered like you said strap it around the back so it can't slide out & also over the top to keep it contacting the bed (no movement is the key)

I've been accused of over srtaping/tying down, but never accused of losing a load. I would strap it down to floor rings and to tail gate, with a strap holding it in as well as down. You didn't say, but I assume box fits between wheel wells. If box is metal or maybe wood, you might throw a packing blanket under it to soften the ride. Cardboard shouldn't bother SIBL, its tough stuff.

Box should fit between the wheel wells. only 2.5 feet wide, and i think the space between the wheel wells are like 3.5 feet.

If you don't have any, get yourself a 4 pack of ratchet straps, better ones with decent ratchets are worth it. You can keep them in the handy bed cubbies.

You got it pretty much on target and those straps should do well for most anything
Add some red flag to put on the over hang (with clips, rope or gorilla tape )to keep over zealous officers off your back.
Good Luck and Drive to the corner then recheck your load and the straps. Get in the habit of double checking!
Also, remember that you gotta say out loud “that ain’t going anywhere” when you do the second check !

For loads 250 lbs or less, get yourself some 3/8" rope rachets. Much quicker in loading and unloading than crank tie down rachet straps.

It's overkill for this specific job but with it rated at 1500 pounds you're matching the hauling capacity of the truck and will be good for anything in the future.
Just yesterday I bought the Husky straps rated up to 500 pounds for $10 at Home Depot. My thought being if it's more than 500 pounds I'm not lifting it into the bed anyway.

Make sure you put a red flag attached to the tail end where it goes past the tailgate. Most states have DOT codes requiring it on oversize loads.

Excellent safety thought. many states require a red ( or very high visible) flag at least 16 square inches and visible for 500 feet attached to the rear overhanging object if it extends more than 4 feet past the end of the vehicle.

The most important thing that everyone forgot to mention is that once you have your load strapped down and secured make sure you give the straps a tug then look at the person who helped you load it and say "Yeah that should hold.".

I like to "tune" mine to about an F-sharp. I personally don't like the rope things, good ratchets are better and can be tightened more. Easy to undo if you know how, pull open both sides at once, stand on webbing if not in use and you want to undo the wound up webbing. But what do I know, only been loading and unloading trucks for a living for 40+ years.
