I had my very first recovery today with my hot pepper red Maverick!! A friends’ Bronco Sport with shitty street tires got stuck in the sand after hitching up a double jet ski trailer and trying to leave! It was a lot easier than I thought it would be and didn’t take much. Good thing I already packed a recovery strap. A small accomplishment but have to start somewhere.

So how do y’all rig up to recover someone with a strap?
We can’t all get a tow truck every time we get stuck.
Soft shackle if at all possible. Basically, dont use metal hooks is what it comes down to.

Edit to add: And don't use "tow" straps (often yellow and flat). Use an actual recovery rope that has stretch in it. Often called a kinetic rope as it stores kinetic energy when stretching.

Good job. I do pack a strap, though not needed yet. More so someone can pull me if I get to ambitious out in Big Bend Nat'l Park.
Nice! Atleast you have it. Better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it!

Good job. For safety reasons I hope you aren't yanking out using a tow ball. They are known to shear off.
Nooo I took the tow ball off! Thank you

Aren't they all AWD? I think the system is basically the same as the Maverick's.

But doesn't matter much if the tires can't get traction. The AWD is severely limited by the OEM tires, except the Falkens.
Exactly! AWD or not, “sand mode” or not, the tires had no traction and was only digging deeper

something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09MVBB3P3

then you'll still need a hitch with shackle, and a soft shackle on the recovery side. all told you can spend $150-200 on it, but it'll be immeasurably safer than a strap with hooks.

I just learned about the tow-ball hitch recovery dangers today.

Great job! Did you haul out the Bronco with the trailer attached? Now that would be newsworthy! (Not that yours isn't)

The BS has the Big Bend emblem, which does not have the locking rear diff and advanced traction control. Might have made a difference, and maybe not. Big Bend is a very decent off roader. I would not have feared trying what the photo shows. It's designed for that kind of situation, though the tires limit traction.
