Got sick of everything sliding around in the bed so I decided to makeup a divider this weekend. I didn't like how sloppy the slots were for a 2x6 so I modeled and 3d printed some end caps and used a piece of 5/4 x 6 PT decking I had laying around, painted it black and put on the caps. It fits nice and snug and can easily be removed from one side of the bed. Would've been faster to just screw a block of wood onto the ends of the 5/4 x6 but I like the rubber-like properties of the tpu filament, plus I have to justify having this printer somehow! Print times were ridiculous though, like 5 hours each!

Rubber on the ends of the board (or whatever you are using) would also solve the rattle.

That’s a really nice divider solution. Wish I had a 3D printer …

For what it’s worth, anyone looking for a really good “buy it” divider, I can recommend saving up your pennies and ordering this one.

Yes, it costs a bit. But was a perfect solution for us — we like to put our groceries back there, and the canvas grocery bags we use are a perfect fit with this divider.

It’s a cinch to take out and put in (tension mounted), is lightweight, and folds for storage or tossing in the back seat as needed.

Apologize that this goes against the spirit of the OP’s great DIY solution … but for those not so blessed with DIY abilities, and able to swing the price, this is a good solution.

That looks pretty sweet, a little pricey though.

I just dropped in a 2x6. It doesn't move around and have a 2x4 that I drop on top of it if I want it taller. I do have to get in the bed to pull it out as it's a tight fit.

If you cut a couple of handle holes in the 2x6 (I used 3" hole set and jigsaw to finish ) then you can pull the 2x6 right up from the side without having to get inside the bed.

Grip is not a problem. I would still have to pull it out from the center as it's too long to come out unless it's pulled straight up. If I shorten it, it will rattle and I'd rather have it tight.

I have the handles on each end and able to simply pull it up from either side, but maybe mine is not as tight.. but at least I don't hear any rattles

For those of you saying that you wish you had a 3D printer, many libraries have them now. You just have to bring in the file on a flash drive and pay (a usually pretty cheap price) for the filament that gets used. Hope that helps someone.

Great design! I duct tape a scrap of attached pad carpet to the ends of the 2x6.

I originally just cut a 2x6 for the back one. It was green wood I guess as it shrank quited a bit and rattled.

I decided to cut a strip of innertube 8 inches long and nailed it under the end and over the top of the end. Did that to both sides. That puts rubber between the end of the board and the bed metal. No rattle anymore.

While it was out, I drilled four 1-1/2 holes about 10 - 12 inches from each end parallel to the board. Used a wood rasp to clean up the oblong holes. Now I have a nice way to grip with both hands to pull the snug board straight up.
