I've had my '22 hybrid for roughly 6 months now and have been using the bed a lot lately and have noticed one major thing I think would not have been that hard to design into the bed. I'm only 5'6" and it is a pain to reach over the bedsides to get stuff out of the front of the bed,so I have to climb onto the tailgate and in all the time to avoid scratching up the bedsides trying to climb up a tire to reach in. If you notice when the tailgate is down there are good sized rounded corners on the rear bumper cover sticking out that would be perfect spots for a bumper step. The ugly Santa Cruz has them on the corners. Why can't our Mavericks? I realize it's a cheap truck and don't care to have the added weight of a complex tailgate step, but molded in bumper steps seem pretty easy to do. Just a thought.

This I whole heartily agree with. The designers could have added this to both sides of the rear bumper. It would have made the Maverick a little more appealing as the Santa Cruz. hopefully after the mid cycle refresh the new design will include that. But knowing Ford it will of course be more expensive and that may be an option with some sort of package.

it turns into a lot more than we'd think to add it. First is how do you support it. Do we convert to full metal bumper or put in a structural support. Also would require relocating parts of the blind spot detection system to other areas. This is also assuming the room to put something there is large enough to begin with.

Id might suggest just lowering the thing. the 3.5" drop in the rear from the eibach kit made reaching into the back pretty easy.

I'm on the lookout for a set of wheels with an open design I could use as a step/ladder.
... of course I'm cheap too!

Suggest this 1-ft folding step stool from Harbor Freight, will fit behind the rear seat nicely!

I'm using the Hitchmate Truckstep. Best accessory so far. Under $100 when on sale.

God No.
If I had one of those sticking out behind my bumper.
My shins would look like this.

Agreed.
Any clowns that say its fine for them need to understand that truck isn't only designed for them, simple things like this can make the design work for way more people and increase good reviews and sales.

I’ve all ways thought that would be a great idea, especially at the rear corners.

Hey... That's a cheap shot at us short guys.

And old guys too. I'm 78 and pretty spry for my age, but it's getting harder and harder to climb up into the bed and I sure don't feel comfortable jumping out of the bed onto a cement driveway these days. A properly designed rear bumper step would be a welcome addition.

Why don't you just use the rear tire as a step??
