I get the throwback nostalgia with the Maverick name. But what if Ford resurrected another nameplate from its past? Specifically, the F-100?

Because this F-100 is one sexy beast.

That would have been the best! Too bad they squandered the Ranger name , or they could have also used that for the Mav (2nd best).

I 'get it' about the whole horsey related motif (cough Pinto cough) but it would have been cool beans had they gone in another direction and resurrected the name Comet or Meteor from the Mercury line-up.

😃

I don't think they squandered, I think Ford chose wisely. I like the name Maverick and I say that having owned a Maverick car back in the seventies. I also owned an F100 at one point in my life as well and I still have a 98 Ranger. I think Ranger II would have been a disaster, Bronco II anybody? My point being the Bronco II sucked so any name with II attached is problematic I think Maverick was a very good choice because the truck is different, it is not an F-Series truck. So not only do I not think it was a missed opportunity I actually think it was very well thought out, a Home Run as far as a name goes. Folks seem to forget before Ranger was a small truck it was a trim option on the 67.5 to 72 Ford F100s.

As a Mustang owner, I'm 100 percent with you on not calling anything Ford makes a <model name> II.

And don't get me wrong. I like the Maverick name. I would have also liked the F-100 name. It would fit, since the Mustang was named after the P-51.

I'm surprised they didn't name it the Mustang Mach-T (for Truck). I mean there's the Mach-E (for Electric), so why not put sequential taillights in the back, up the price $5,000, and call it a day?
