I did the fix to the vent behind the back seat, but mice still got in. I caught one, but there must be a nest in the vents in the dashboard because when I get in the truck... especially when it's been sitting in the sun... And turn on the fan or AC, it stinks coming out of those vents. Has anybody tried to get into them or had to deal with a nest like this? I'm hoping I don't have to tear the whole dashboard apart to find them

Oh my, that will be a pita. That stink has got to be unbearable. Is the plastic cowl at bottom area of windshield under the hood (the air intake to the fan) or anything on the firewall seem out of place? Are you positive their not still coming in behind back seat vent. Maybe start probing around under dash and inside HVAC vents with a borescope.

Check your cabin air filter. I had a about half a cup of corn "stashed" on top of filter. Take it out slowly and try to not spill any inside AC. The filter is like a king size bed. They will nibble on the filter paper. I have taken to misting mine with peppermint oil about every three months. Along with garage floor and have sticky traps in garage also. I had a 2018 Nissan frontier that I gave my son. A developer cleared tress and weeds, etc off about 200 acres a couple blocks from his house. Displaced rats ate the wirings harnesses, corner of fuze box. Check engine light came on so he went to dealership. $5800.00 was paid for by comprehensive rider he had to pay the $50.00 deductible. There have been several posting about mice in cabin air filter in mavericks.

Thanks. Will do. I had covered the vent with 1/2" hardware cloth and it still looks good. Thereust be another entry. Fan intake grill in front of the wipers is intact.

When we moved back into our house after tenants that belonged in a sty, not even a stable, we noticed a garage mouse. So I set traps and c aught it.

A couple of days later, my wife asked when I was going to do something about it. When I explained the I had, she told me that it had run over her foot that morning!

So I started putting out eight traps around the garage, and caught a couple eery morning! by the time I ran out of mice, the count was past 50.

anyway, the answer to your question is "peanut butter". I'd stick an M&M or two and a bit of lettuce into the peanut butter.

Nothing works like peanut butter to get a mouse's attention! [pest control companies can't use it, due to allergies.]

I agree on the peanut butter. Had a mouse in the basement. Used the old fashioned snap trap. As I was walking up the stairs after setting it, it went off.

We had an issue with mice and the occasional squirrel nesting under the hoods of previous vehicles. Our mechanic told us to get a couple of realistic looking plastic snakes from the Dollar Store and zap strap them securely under the hoods of both cars. That did the trick. Never saw a mouse or squirrel nest under the hood again. Both our Mavericks now have plastic snakes zap strapped to the top of the 12 volt battery.

I had an El Camino that would be stored in the garage when we went south for the winter. Wound up with a dead mouse in the defroster/heater ducts.
After that experience I taped up the vents at the windshield and placed moth balls all around the car. Every trap I set had a dead mouse in it when we got back but none in the El Camino.

I know Moth Balls are not something you should handle. Not sure if they sell them anymore.

Do I need to put a yellow & red "caution Plastic Snake" tech sign on my hood or ???

Try shooting peppermint extract into the vents. Mice don't like the smell so it will drive them away and help cover that pest smell.

I used an Ozone generator to rid one of my vehicles of "mouse" smells after using mouse traps and a water bucket with black sunflower seeds as an attractive swimming pool for mice in my garage.
The ozone generator worked great, but they are very dangerous if used improperly. Be sure to read and follow directions.
