The ACF-50? How so?
I think it was a joke maybe, or was targeted at a different post? It's aerospace rated for aircraft engine bays so I think the Maverick will be alright. 😄

ACF-50 is a state-of-the-art compound for controlling corrosion on aircraft electrical and avionics systems and airframes. ACF-50 is designed for owners of strut equipped Piper aircraft to comply with new Piper bulletin 5280C requiring lift strut inspection.

ACF-50 kills the corrosion process with just one application and will last for 24 months. Microswitches, cannon plugs, and relays will remain corrosion free. Plus, ACF-50 will easily free seized nuts, screws and bolts. ACF-50 is qualified under Mil-C-81309E, and manufactured under ISO 9000 Certified Processes. ACF-50 holds written OEM approvals from: Gulfstream, Bombardier, ATR Regional Transport, Douglas/Boeing Helicopter, Bell/Textron, Robinson, Enstrom, Sikorsky, MD Helicopters, Schweitzer, Hiller, British Aerospace, Concorde Battery, Raytheon, Piper, Cessna, Pilatus, Beech, Van's, Extra, Air Tractor, Lake, Rolls-Royce, Britten-Norman, Learjet, McDonnell Douglas, and Canadair. Try ACF-50. You will truly be amazed at the results!

Check your cabin filter behind glove box. I have found nests there three times. Also corn stored in my hybrids air box
I took your advice and checked. Clean so far.

While I stored my maverick in the garage over the winter the little critters got in my Maverick. An awful smell was emanating from the vent behind the back seat and I had to sniff it out. I believe the mice got in under the vehicle. The vent itself can't be taken out inside the cab but can be pushed in and would result in losing the whole vent assembly unless your willing to do hours of work removing Shields under the vehicle to get to the vent assembly. Had to flush some odor band in there and flush the smell out with a garden hose.

Or squirrels?
Ain't no squirrel gonna fit in there. Mouse for sure. Do you have sunflower plants or bird feeders around the house ? All small rodent family members are hoarders and your truck always finds it way back to the same spot...or close enough...to be a storage bin.
If someone has a 3D printer and can print up a grill large enough for air and small enough to keep the mice out they would have a lot of people wanting it :)

Peppermint, home desparation sells it.
I use the plant raw in my basement. It works.

Hmmmmm.....
Peppermint grows best indoors with 12–16 hours of daily, full-spectrum LED light, providing roughly 5+ hours of direct sun equivalent. Use low-wattage LED panels (20-60W) placed 12-24 inches above the plant to avoid overheating. A 6000K daylight spectrum is ideal for encouraging bushy, aromatic growth and preventing leggy, weak stems.

I think the below suggestion for hardware cloth is the best, but - you would then have to check it regularly to assure it wasn't clogged with debris.

A piece of hardware cloth (1/4" steel mesh) over/in the inlet will prevent ingress.
The rest of the under hood area is open season.
I find propping my hood open works, as they like places to hide, not the open air.
You can get battery zap traps that are baited with peanut butter at a hardware store.

So I cut a piece of 1/4" hardware cloth (weird name for what it is) and just let the filter hold it in place against the opening. Good idea but not sure it'll work since they say a mouse can get its body through any hole its head can go through. We'll see. I'll keep an eye on it.

Certainly shouldn't obstruct airflow in any way.

If someone does try to 3D print a barrier, don't use PLA. PLA is made of corn starch and mice love to gnaw on it.

Yep, the hardware cloth should be good and the peppermint oil sprayed around will do the trick as well.

I had a GMC Canyon 5cyl, 4X4 for several years. One day the thing went into "limp home mode" and I barely got it back to the house. I hunted all over and found the air filter box was nearly full of black walnuts! Couple of pesky red squirrels gettin ready for winter.

Is that 1/4" ? Looks larger. Like 1/2"...
Anyway, a mouse gets into small areas because it can flatten itself down and scooch through a 1/4" gap. It can't fit through a 1/4" square.

There is always 1/8". It's harder to find as most want the more ridged welded version but woven is more flexible (like cloth).
