I can speak from experience that the cargo area of a Prius is amazing given the outward appearance, and those cars are largely indestructible.
Don't know why I never looked at them.. Barring any markups, a Prius Limited has more features than the Maverick and is $1,200 more than my Lariat....

The Prius is a maverick with a high tonneau cover already installed that gets better mileage and like the last person said is indestructible. Totally proven powertrain.

Honestly for your needs, you can’t beat a Prius in my opinion

We own a 2021 Rav4 2.5 non hybrid.. xle and it was around 34k. It's basic and cloth interior with decent tech it gets 33mpg and has an ok amount of space inside. You're definitely not hauling 4x8 sheets of lumber inside of it.
When I drive the rav4 it's crazy, I'll be at a light with 9 other rav4s. Toyota sold millions of them, they do not stand out like a maverick will.

I've thought of the Rav4 myself. I'm in the same boat. I ordered a Lariat and I'm concerned I've put it on a pedestal too.

Yet, I'm not expecting a car, I'm expecting a truck. I've had one before, road like a dream and was just what I needed/wanted. A bad hail storm and an engine issue Dodge refused to acknowledge ended it's time with me. It was burnt orange and AWESOME!

I have set a deadline date for myself. The news this week doesn't give me much hope (hybrid ordered early November) and I don't know what else I would choose as I need great mileage for my next vehicle (42 miles one way to work). Anyone have any suggestions?

There is a good chance you get pushed to 2023 on your Maverick order. I think you would do well to wait. If you can’t wait maybe pick up a used Prius for your daily commuter. Taken care of a Prius can stack up 250-300k plus miles. Once that is paid off buy a slightly used Maverick for your truck needs. I’ve been driving a Prius for 7 years. Even though it was the worst year ever for Prius (2011) it still goes down the road just fine.

Rav4 limited year 2016 had a very nice interior and no rattling noise. The seat cushion is about the same as a Maverick. I didn't like the fact that the wheelbase of 2016 Rav4 was too short for the way I drove the car. The new model might have some improvement so I was also looking at 2022 Rav4 hybrid before I found my HPR. Most dealers want $5k over MSRP except one who said I could order one at MSRP with $500 non-refundable deposit and the lead time would be about a month or less. One very good thing about Rav4 hybrid is that on demand awd comes standard. I am happy with my HPR.

I have to admit that I was holding on hope, but that recent dealer memo kinda put the first nail in the coffin for me. The more I think about it, the more I wonder if the Maverick is the right vehicle for me.

I wanted the Maverick because it was a hybrid and for the price range ($31K Lariat), I could finally have a bit of luxury in one of my vehicles. I understand forums are a place where mainly negative grievances are shared, but all the reviews of the easily scuffed interior, paint chipping, and the overall views of ford being a rusty, cheaply built vehicle, is the Maverick really the little bit of luxury I am hoping it would be? I still have yet to be able to get up close or sit in one in my area.

A pickup truck was nice, but the more I think about it, is it really practical for my lifestyle? Mainly because I have dog that always rode in the back of my hatchback and in the Mav, she would have been all over the seats. Plus for Florida, if I wanted any cargo in the back to be relatively water tight, that's another $1,000 for a Tonneau cover.

I found myself looking at a hybrid 2022 Rav4 XSE. Factoring the in tanneau cover needed for the Mav, it's only $3k more (I have not researched dealer markups or anything yet). It has the same powertrain and near identical fuel economy, plus I understand Toyota has a pretty good reputation for good build quality and reliable vehicles. Not factoring in the loss of a pickup bed which may or may not be right for my lifestyle anyway, the only creature comforts I would be losing would be the premium audio and I understand Toyota has a less intuitive adaptive cruise technology.

Thoughts?
After the Ford memo came out I started researching the RAV4 Hybrid and to me it is a viable alternative. The RAV4 Prime is a 6 month wait if you order one so I would likely opt for the standard RAV4 hybrid. My 2004 Ranger will handle the heavier chores. My late October Maverick order is a basic
XL. If they push me to the 2023 MY I will likely move on. Fool me once shame on you...fool me twice shame on me.

Ok, I understand where you are coming from on not wanting to wait, but there are other hybrid Ford options

Escape Hybrid FWD or AWD, roughly 40MPG

Escape PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid), has tax rebate available, FWD only

My wife and I were looking into the PHEV Escape until she decided on the Maverick

Just an idea: https://www.corwinfordofspringfield.com/new-Springfield-2022-Ford-Escape-SE+Hybrid-1FMCU9BZ0NUA33867
I'm by no means loyal to Ford, and the mess they made here isn't pushing me towards one of their other vehicles either.

Regardless of that, for the price and features, I would rather go Rav4/Prius over a hybrid Escape....

You can't go wrong with a Hybrid Toyota at all. They have been in the Hybrid game for as long as Hybrids have been around and are the reason Hybrids are so popular today (Prius).

We have a 2019 RAV4. It’s very nice, but it was $40K. I prefer a pickup, so the Mav looks like a steal with the same drivetrain at about $23K. The RAV4 generates 219 hp though, so it’s going to be a bit peppier.

I never really considered a Prius... don't know why... Maybe its because I always though it was similar in size to my Mazda3 hatch and I've been looking for something bigger, hence the Maverick or Rav4. It might be worth exploring....
Out of curiosity, why are you looking at something bigger? Do you have a family of 4 or do you go camping a lot...I do and we've done it fine in a much smaller car than a Mazda 3 hatch (previously in a 3-door Hyundai accent hatch). It always interests me how/why people go straight to an SUV when it seems (to me) that a smaller sedan would meet their needs just fine, along with being more cost-efficient all around. I can confirm that a Prius has a bunch of cargo space.
