Agreed. I have a friend who is a taco fanboy. He readily admits all the faults and the horrible driving experience, and of course touts the reliability & resale feather (true enough..). But he still keeps buying them. It's rather bizarre. After about an hour riding with him, I could not wait to get out of that thing. Can't imagine actually driving it for any length of time. He loved my Mav, but said he would never consider getting one. People are just weird.

Brand loyalty is huge, which is why I think the Maverick was introduced to begin with: to get first time buyers hooked to Ford. The first Ford I bought as an adult was my wife's 2008 Escape used in 2013 and the fact she and my daughter walked away from an accident unscathed is the only reason we considered a Ford when we went to replace it and why I'm bothering with the Maverick now. Otherwise, I was a Dodge/Ram driver and still watch their products. Rampage has me very tempted depending on what they do with it.

I'm not sure about that. When I had a Tacoma and my wife had a Prius, taking either car to the dealer meant bracing yourself for an onslaught on overpriced and unnneeded services, bogus claims of worn out items, etc. They were awful -- I truly worried and felt bad for seniors and single women that must have just been terrified into replacing parts that were fine and having work done that was total BS. And Toyota OEM parts prices are laughable. .

I do miss the ruggedness of my Tacoma, and I do sometimes wonder if 15 years from now that Taco will be worth big bugs and my Maverick will be a throw-away. But here and now, the Maverick is a MUCH more livable vehicle, more fun to drive, and gets literally 3x the gas milage. And that makes me happy.

I think you're on point about Taco vs Mav. In my mind they are almost two different cars. Residual value definitely goes to Taco for Toyota reliability but the Mac is really a much better car for daily driving.

As for dealership markups I totally understand all of this is very regional. Here in Texas Ford and Chevy really have endless flow of customers and I think they use that to hike up the prices. I haven't been to the Toyota dealership recently but the Honda around the corner has no markups on anything except Si's and Type R.

IMO this whole dealership model has to change. I dont understand an economic model where there is a middle man that doesnt do anything. They used to be the sales force to attract people to make purchases but theres literally no need for that today.

wonder how much bigger it would be if they actually had dealerships that gave fair pricing to people and offered adequate dealership support. The endless stories of dealership abuse is what this forum used to be in the early days when I was waiting in anticipation for my FE. My local ford dealership could care less to help me out with solving my recalls.

Not to mention better dealership interactions (at least in my area). You are getting railed with dealer markups at Ford while Toyota dealerships sell what they have (minus the supra they always mark up the supra)

The Houston area Toyota dealers (all 9 of them) are marking up all their inventory. Was interested in a RAV4 Hybrid Limited but I’m not paying $48k for a $39k vehicle….

I don't see it that way. It's more impressive that Maverick is out selling every one of the Mid size class except Tacoma. It goes without saying that it also wins the compact class of 2.

It’s due to fact theirs not lot competition in its own segement . We all know it’s going outsell the cruz . Maverick is constantly getting compared to the mid size truck segment . The maverick has kinda moved on from its own segment in that regard

Brand loyalty is a strange thing. Nowadays, I think it's more a relic of the past. I don't know many people who blindly cling to a brand any more, when something else better suits their needs. There are exceptions, though - like my brother!

I grew up in the early '60s racing Plymouths so I was a Mopar fan for a long time. I bought Dodge pickups, Rams, and my Plymouths morphed into Chryslers. I loved my Mopars and didn't desert them, but they deserted me.

Bottom line Chrysler strayed from what made them popular when they developed the K-Car. I hung on and bought a Chrysler 5th Avenue in the 80's a car I truly loved. We bought a couple of mini vans built on the K-car platform which were ok...a box on wheels. When they pushed the wheels to the corner on the Chrysler Concord, I bought one in '92. I drove Dodge, Ram, Ford, and GMC pickups throughout the 90's through the 2000s, while my wife drove Chrysler Town & Country mini vans. Shoot my wife even bought a 2008 PT cruiser she drove for 11 years.

I love that Dodge has resisted so many manufacturing trends and made rear wheel drive V8 powered cars for as long as they have. Unfortunately, that is ending too, but then I'm too old for a Hellcat anyway.

The merger or buyout, depending on who you asked, (Chrysler merged, Diamler purchased) with Diamler, discontinued Plymouth, and then partnered with Fiat and now something called Stellantis. I didn't desert Mopar, they deserted me. Way too much foreign car company influence for me today. Is the Renegade a Jeep or a Fiat. I remember the time when Fiat was considered the worst car manufacturer in the world, known for their quality issues. What is the new Dodge Hornet, a Mopar or Alpha? As much as I like the idea of a Dodge Hornet, I dislike that it shares so much with an Apha Romero just as much.

Oh, I would buy a Ram today if they made something that suited me, hoping that is still designed in the US and made somewhere in North America. About the best you can hope for these days.

I didn't desert Mopars, they deserted me.

So thankfully Ford made the Maverick. The right truck at the right time for me.
