Nova scotia, canada, only bought it because its built in Mexico, not US
Seriously why are high schoolers so obedient now. I would've broken that rule, in an intelligent way by finding a deserted back road & doing a quick check-out drive everyone with their heads down until know its clear, but just for the point of validating I could break the rules intelligently & not get caught. He's smarter than I would have been at that age. Thankfully, I didn't own a truck (or any vehicle) when in high School. I would have been one of those who hauled people on the back![]()
Yup, Honda element too. Or maybe it's to make old geezers fell like they're coolThat was the same issue with Scion....target was a younger audience but ended up popular with the retiree crowd.
Make sure You have enough CFM Carburetor on it!! That many cubic inches will like the Larger CFM carburetors!! I had a 4150 1,000 CFM Holley HP on My 466 for Years but switched to a 4500 Dominator and it made a big difference. I put the 1,000 CFM carb back on just to be sure and it felt down on power big time compared to the Dominator!! I just think the 429-460's just like the larger Venturies of the Dominators IMO they need to breathe!! My Mustang ran a 11.27@122 mph in the 1/4 Mile with the 4150 1,000 cfm carb but I haven't raced it with the Dominator on it!! Some people say the street driveability of the Dominators aren't good but mine is just as good as the 4150 1,000 cfm carb and is a 2 circuit carb like the 4150 carb!!10.5:1 compression hydraulic roller cam.
I had it on the dyno last summer, but
It had too much cylinder pressure because the cam was too small.
It made 541Hp and 650lbft.![]()
One one hand I'm a little sad our vehicles aren't user friendly for us backyard mechanics. On the other hand I marvel at the sophistication and software that makes my hybrid operate so smoothly with so much going on.59 y.o. male here, about to turn 60 in a few weeks. My 2023 Maverick XL is my second truck, before that was a 2000 Ford Ranger, which I picked up in 2011 for a decent price at the time. Never had a truck before, and loved that little Ranger, it was perfect for my small household needs. The Ranger got stolen and recovered (story detailed on this forum long ago), and got the Maverick to replace it. The Mav got it through my brain that a truck doesn't "have to have a frame" in order to be useful, and have been enjoying both the ride, mileage and bed space of the Mav ever since.
Another thing is the Mav is the most "computerized" car I've ever owned. I grew up watching "Knight Rider" and wanting that car so bad, but honestly these days the Mav represents just about the right amount of computerization and "gizmos" for me. If someone gave me a bucket of money to buy a high-end Lincoln, Lexus or Cadillac, the ride would no doubt be awesome, but I wouldn't feel that comfortable with everything being automated in a vehicle like that.
This made a lot of folks nervous.I loved my Sport Trac right up to the point I needed to rent a motorcycle trailer from U-Haul.![]()
U-Haul prohibited any of their trailers from being towed behind Ford Explorers model years 2002 to 2010, including the Explorer Sport Trac.
At that point it became a useless vehicle to me. I sold it within a few months.
This is an underrated element of the Maverick, especially the lower trims. I've driven my in-laws newer model cars - a Honda CR-V and a 2025 Toyota Tacoma - and they're very, very nice. But they also have features that I don't like, that my own teenager doesn't like, because they're bossy and fussy. Driving on a straight highway? It thinks you're asleep or not holding the wheel! Trying to carefully navigate the highway? ACC slows you down right as you try to start passing.Another thing is the Mav is the most "computerized" car I've ever owned. I agree! I loved it and looked for another one to replace it, but they all had too many miles or were rusted out. I wonder if they stopped making them because they were so damn reliable!! At least mine was...I always wondered why Ford didn't call the Sport track a crew cab ranger. In my opinion, that's what it was. I never understood why it didn't sell better.
On the contrary,,,,,The Maverick, even in it's upper trim levels, doesn't shout "overcompensating" in any way.
but is it OVER compensating? You'd have a 1986 Yugo if you were overcompensating. On the contrary,,,,,
