Nova scotia, canada, only bought it because its built in Mexico, not US
He's smarter than I would have been at that age. Thankfully, I didn't own a truck (or any vehicle) when in high School. I would have been one of those who hauled people on the back😂
Seriously why are high schoolers so obedient now. I would've broken that rule, in an intelligent way by finding a deserted back road & doing a quick check-out drive everyone with their heads down until know its clear, but just for the point of validating I could break the rules intelligently & not get caught.

Now it would just be 1 more complication & I hate adding any unneeded "points of failure" to my life, but back then I didn't even know what I wanted to do unless I was told not to do it.

Counterpoint on older age of Maverick owners:
All Mavericks are newer vehicles 3 years or less, so virtually all Maverick owners were/are new car buyers because there just arent many used ones for sale like Rangers & F-150s

If you ONLY compared new 1-2 year old vehicle owners, how many of those vehicles of any make & model would skew more to young people than older buyers?
I would say virtually none, Kia & Hyundai probably have the most young new car buyers since younger are either extremely price sensitive, or are gonna get whatever is the coolest car they can get approved for.

That was the same issue with Scion....target was a younger audience but ended up popular with the retiree crowd.
Yup, Honda element too. Or maybe it's to make old geezers fell like they're cool

59 y.o. male here, about to turn 60 in a few weeks. My 2023 Maverick XL is my second truck, before that was a 2000 Ford Ranger, which I picked up in 2011 for a decent price at the time. Never had a truck before, and loved that little Ranger, it was perfect for my small household needs. The Ranger got stolen and recovered (story detailed on this forum long ago), and got the Maverick to replace it. The Mav got it through my brain that a truck doesn't "have to have a frame" in order to be useful, and have been enjoying both the ride, mileage and bed space of the Mav ever since.

Another thing is the Mav is the most "computerized" car I've ever owned. I grew up watching "Knight Rider" and wanting that car so bad, but honestly these days the Mav represents just about the right amount of computerization and "gizmos" for me. If someone gave me a bucket of money to buy a high-end Lincoln, Lexus or Cadillac, the ride would no doubt be awesome, but I wouldn't feel that comfortable with everything being automated in a vehicle like that.

10.5:1 compression hydraulic roller cam.
I had it on the dyno last summer, but
It had too much cylinder pressure because the cam was too small.
It made 541Hp and 650lbft.

Make sure You have enough CFM Carburetor on it!! That many cubic inches will like the Larger CFM carburetors!! I had a 4150 1,000 CFM Holley HP on My 466 for Years but switched to a 4500 Dominator and it made a big difference. I put the 1,000 CFM carb back on just to be sure and it felt down on power big time compared to the Dominator!! I just think the 429-460's just like the larger Venturies of the Dominators IMO they need to breathe!! My Mustang ran a 11.27@122 mph in the 1/4 Mile with the 4150 1,000 cfm carb but I haven't raced it with the Dominator on it!! Some people say the street driveability of the Dominators aren't good but mine is just as good as the 4150 1,000 cfm carb and is a 2 circuit carb like the 4150 carb!!

One one hand I'm a little sad our vehicles aren't user friendly for us backyard mechanics. On the other hand I marvel at the sophistication and software that makes my hybrid operate so smoothly with so much going on.

I loved my Sport Trac right up to the point I needed to rent a motorcycle trailer from U-Haul.
20251028_093308.webp

U-Haul prohibited any of their trailers from being towed behind Ford Explorers model years 2002 to 2010, including the Explorer Sport Trac.
At that point it became a useless vehicle to me. I sold it within a few months.
This made a lot of folks nervous.

The Ford Explorer and Firestone tire issue was a 1990s and early 2000s scandal involving tread separation and rollovers caused by a combination of factors, primarily defective Firestone Wilderness AT tires and the Ford Explorer's susceptibility to rollovers. Key contributors included flawed manufacturing, specifically at Firestone's Decatur plant, and Ford's recommendation of low tire pressure to mitigate rollovers.

I just turned 35 and picked up my Lobo a few months before my birthday. My only requirement for the Maverick was the fact it can haul a motorcycle in the bed. Because of this requirement, and it was the only requirement I had, I obviously wanted something as low to the ground as possible. Thats when I made the decision to pick up a Maverick. The fact Ford had just released the Lobo when I placed my order was just icing on the cake to me.

This is a family vehicle for us but really is my wifes daily driver.

I'll be 77 in Dec. Been a gear head all if my life. Trucker since '72 still working PT 30-60 hours per week. Raced dirt tracks for 20+ years. Former race promoter... ran classic car shows, swap meets etc for many years.

Owned and built hot rods. Hemis, Nailheads and flatheads. Roadsters and three window coupes. Bought and sold British sports cars and parts fir a decade.

Would have preferred to buy something simpler and cheaper... power windows, locks, tilt and cruise. Manual transfer case... maybe auto lock front hubs. All this tech is just a problem waiting to happen. I see it in the big trucks everyday.

Any vehicle that has 1000 pages in the owners manual is too complex.

This is an underrated element of the Maverick, especially the lower trims. I've driven my in-laws newer model cars - a Honda CR-V and a 2025 Toyota Tacoma - and they're very, very nice. But they also have features that I don't like, that my own teenager doesn't like, because they're bossy and fussy. Driving on a straight highway? It thinks you're asleep or not holding the wheel! Trying to carefully navigate the highway? ACC slows you down right as you try to start passing.

I pay attention and like to feel like I am in control. I do sometimes regret not getting The Co-Pilot package on my XLT, but I was already about as high in cost as I was willing to go. And those features should be standard anyway. It's weird that we are asked to pay more to keep those around us safer.

unofficial tally from casual browsing of this thread shows that Maverick buyers are mostly old people.

There are a number of variables that would lead to this result other than "that's who likes it". This entry level price vehicle would seem to appeal to younger buyers with limited incomes, but I think that logic is countered by the current idea of what "entry level vehicle price" actually is. I believe many younger people are buying used vehicles for less than half the cost of a $30k Maverick due to the current economic situation. Yes, there are outliers, there always are. I know a 20 y/o who makes over a million$ a year. Another variable is the importance of "image" to younger buyers. Many believe that what they drive is an important indicator of their social status and an expression of their "image". i.e.; a huge monster truck signifies that they are a strong and powerful man, even when the more experienced of us know that more often indicates the driver is overcompensating for self-perceived shortcomings. Driving a racecar of a vehicle, on the streets where racing isn't actually needed or wanted, is for the same reasons. Image enhancement. We old people have grown past these things, usually. The Maverick, even in it's upper trim levels, doesn't shout "overcompensating" in any way.

I always wondered why Ford didn't call the Sport track a crew cab ranger. In my opinion, that's what it was. I never understood why it didn't sell better.
I agree! I loved it and looked for another one to replace it, but they all had too many miles or were rusted out. I wonder if they stopped making them because they were so damn reliable!! At least mine was...
