This is very much the case for why so many older buyers IMO. They have to be older just to have lived the original small truck era.
In my case; a used '81 Courier bought in '84, a used '87 Ranger XLT Super cab in '88, several '96 Nissan regular cab, (hard body) pickup company vehicles (2 of which I purchased) followed by my used '01 Ranger XLT Supercrew that I gave up for my new '24 Maverick. Drove the first Ranger and a Nissan to over 200k. Gave a Nissan to my son, who now has the '01 Ranger still going.

Really hope my Maverick experience will be as good, but I have my doubts.
I think it will. Based on the track record of the other Ford hybrids which have basically the same powertrain the Maverick should live a long time. I still see 1st and 3rd gen Escapes, fusions, c Max, and Lincoln MKX out there. The maverick is built on an existing platform that has a decent record of reliability. I'm cautiously optimistic

Nova scotia, canada, only bought it because its built in Mexico, not US
Well, I've owned a Crown Vic, 2 Grand Marquis and a Town car. I believe they were all made in Canada. A focus made in Mexico, and couple of Japanese Toyotas, and a few USA made Pontiacs and other miscellaneous vehicles. Had good experiences with all of them.

56 year old female here - I drove a 2002 Ford Sport Trac for 14 years, had ZERO issues with it and loved it so much, so when I first laid eyes on the Maverick, I knew that's what I wanted next and have no regrets!
I always wondered why Ford didn't call the Sport track a crew cab ranger. In my opinion, that's what it was. I never understood why it didn't sell better.

I think I am the youngest in this thread at 18. Got my 2025 hybrid about a month ago and have about 550 miles on it so far and I am loving it the mpg always make me smile at the end of the drive. So far been using it for my landscaping company mainly but going to be using it for road tripping to go do my hobbies like high powered rockets, cycling and watching endurance racing.

I saw a younger lass in one the other day, though I am getting to that age where everyone under 35 looks like a kid, so wild guess, 25ish.
Same here. I was taken aback yesterday when after helping my 94 year old mother walk up a fairly steep entrance into a church, when I got to the bottom where there was a step, a young man reached out to help me get down safely. I was both impressed that there are still young people who are naturally respectful and helpful and humbled by the fact that I looked old enough to be offered help. Then I took an honest look into the mirror and saw why he offered help. 😅

Wow! In my opinion, the Maverick is a perfect first truck for a young person such as yourself

71 years old .
Drove many cheap, wore out rust-buckets through school living in the Midwest .
Bought my first brand new truck in 1974 .
Bare bones Chevy longbed.
6 cylinders , 3 in the tree , no AC , no PS .
Thought I was in heaven , had it pinstriped , bought the clear , bubble , seat covers , mounted a radio under the dash , Zeibart undercoating , and picked up a used camper shell .
It still rusted away ....

Have had about 50 vehicles in my life , I'm guessing my Maverick should be my last one .
And for fun I break out my 1961 Ford Starliner . " Inherited " from my Grandpa 38 years ago , currently has 18,000 original miles ...
I'll post a picture in a minute ...
Looking forward to the picture. I remember the three on the tree. Today it's an anti theft device.

I agree. One of the biggest reasons I got it over other trucks was that it will serve me well no matter what I do like if I go to college and don't really need a truck all that much no problem still getting 40mpg and have an easy to drive and park truck. If I go trades I got a truck that handle that no problems and save me money commuting to job sites. And of course it is super cheap to road trip compared to other trucks and does well for my hobbies. Overall I plan to care for it (regular maintenance and getting it undercoated and what not) and have it for years there is also a nice aftermarket and I am already planning what I want to add to it. Thinking a wildtop topper would be nice.

Gen Zer here, the youngest generation to drive a vehicle right now (1997-2012) Gen alpha isn't quite there yet (2013-present) That means the oldest of that generation would still only be twelve years old and the youngest being zero.

It's funny how the original intent for the Maverick was to appeal to young, outdoorsy types when quite the opposite happened. According to the comments and my real-world observations, they seem to be driven by older people, specifically Boomers and Gen Xers. I see why. They're affordable (at least used to) easy to get in and out of, practical, great on fuel and modest.

Overall, it's a great all-rounder that doesn't cost an arm and a leg to buy and operate.
I agree that it's less affordable than it used to be. But it's still the most affordable pickup. And would be a very suitable truck for the younger person who could then customize it like he wants. People my age tend to be practical as well. Everything you said is on point

68 Mustang's are one of the nicest looking Mustangs.
My F100 engine is a stroked 460 (520).
The cam is fairly mild. I hope it will make 600 hp and maybe 650 lbft.

That is sweet!!
Phoenix, AZ 70 year old male. Bought a 2005 Ranger new and in June it was 20 years old and 300,000 miles and decided it was time for a Hybrid Mav with great gas mileage. Very happy with it.
Wow the 2000 Ranger served you well. Hope the Maverick does the same.

Demographics of new car buyers - all light cars & trucks, not just Mavericks.

I couldn't find a more current chart than this one from Statista but many articles say the skew towards older buyers has gotten dramatically worse since 2017.

I suppose young people today are spending their money on non-essentials like rent and groceries.
