This is the internet and it attracts whiny, negative people like a light attracts moths. They would never have the guts to actually say something in person, but hiding behind the 'net, they can crap all over everyone. Name any object or idea and in 5 seconds I can find people who object to it. If you want the truth, go talk to a gunsmith and ask him what guns people are bringing him to fix. Same is true with a mechanic; some cars rarely break down and some are in every day.

When I worked in a gas station, someone would come in needing a battery and I'd line them up with one of the company's brand and they'd say, "Maybe I should go buy a Sears Die Hard. I hear they're great." I'd just take them in the storage room where we collected batteries for recycle. 95% of them were Die Hard. Tons of positive advertising, but pretty crappy batteries.

More batteries sold equals more batteries recycled. That doesn't make them better or worse batteries. You'd have to track how many months they lasted.

Agreed, and even Diehard sold silver/gold/platinum variations. If I bought silver, it meant I was ready to trade/sell that vehicle.
Edit: Still sells!

Well I don't presume to know everything for sure but I have had more than one mechanic tell me this.
What the Law Actually Says
    • The Warranty Period: Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, carmakers must ensure parts are available to fulfill repairs while the vehicle is under warranty. Once the warranty expires, this legal obligation ends. [1, 2]
    • Emissions and Safety Recalls: The EPA requires emissions-related component defect coverage for up to 8 years, and the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act handles safety-related defects or recalls for a period of up to 10 years from the date of sale, but these rules dictate free fixes or remedies for specific defects rather than a general, ongoing parts inventory. [1, 2]
    • Industry Practice: Most automakers follow a voluntary business practice of stocking wear-and-tear replacement parts for about 10 years to meet consumer demand and support dealer networks, but they are not legally bound to do so
Had the law ever been 10 years then it would have most likely BANNED after market parts for 10 years to make the OEM profitable on the requirement. Many parts suppliers have contracts with the OEM to provide service parts for various lengths of time. The plant I worked at for 3.5 years prior to retirement had to supply service parts for 7 years after the model was changed making the part obsolete for production.

A Camaro is a special-interest vehicle, though. Try to find parts for, say, a '91 Beretta.
It's a Corsica and an L-Body. Drive parts everywhere. Body parts might be sketchy.

It's a 35-year-old Corsica and L-Body. I can't recall the last time I saw one on the street. Do you think it's as easy as finding '91 Camaro parts?

You can find the parts. The hard part is finding a 91 Berretta worth putting parts in it 😂

I have seen literally 2 Olds Cutlass convertibles somewhat recently, probably about '94s surprisingly clean too but you're not wrong. Most from that time are long gone because they were throw away cars. I'm surprised any Camaros made it this far from that time. When I first got mine nobody had them. Nowadays I seen tons of them. I think I single-handley brought them back in my area 😂 (not really) most are way cleaner than mine is but some I can't believe people are trying to sell as a whole car 🫣

This seems to be mostly what I've experienced in my 55 plus years of experience with vehicles. Seems that most body parts are available for seven years and anything mechanical for 10 years at least, usually more because they were used over several years on multiple models. This also permits Ford to offer their ESP for up to ten years. Of course the aftermarket will do their thing on vehicles that are widely popular or have a special interest.
It would be interesting to see how the Maverick fares in this regard over the next 25-30 years with the onset of EV's and maybe other alternatives plus all of today's tech with Software and all. Too bad, I (statistically) won't be around to see it.

Mention Maverick in 25 years. People will think you are talking about a cow. The truck will be long forgotten.
I'm pretty sure most of us in the chat will remember them 😄 at least I know I will as it's my first truck 🤷‍♂️ I remember all my past vehicles. They all have their place for one reason or another.

Or the Pontiac Vibe body on a Matrix chassis and drivetrain.
Those were built as a joint venture between GM & Toyota at the Fremont Ca factory that Tesla eventually repurposed for their EVs.

One of my bicycle shop customers worked there & built my Vibe. He bought a bike from me first and I returned the favor.

The lease was up on my loved but discontinued Aztec - and the Vibe was a mini Aztec in my view:)
