I just saw this kbb article on the Bronco forum and pulled up "Mid-size Pickup Truck" and noticed that the Mav won for "Lowest 5 year cost to own". I'm pretty sure the class is a little off, but the value remains. It would be nice to know if this is hybrid or 2.0 EB (or maybe some average of the two?).

This is my cost for Fuel for the last year. I'm assuming the fuel cost KBB quoted is for a EB.
Ford Maverick Maverick is KBB's Lowest 5 Year Cost to Own Winner in Class 1682783049255

Weird that the Maverick has the highest insurance rates. I would think that the Tacoma and Ranger are more expensive, heavier vehicles. That should result in higher insurance rates for them.

It seems that all EV types have higher insurance rates

I keep complete records on my vehicles and I will have much lower costs for my Maverick compared to KBB's numbers.

These are my total costs for my Maverick for year 2022:

Total miles driven = 6083.00

Gas cost: 661.85, per mile cost: 0.109
Insurance cost: 580.72, per mile cost: 0.095
Wash cost: 25.50, per mile cost: 0.004

Total cost: 1268.07, per mile cost: 0.208

The above included a 2804 mile 12 day vacation trip last June where gas prices were near $5 a gallon.

Insurance was a little higher also because I was on an unlimited plan but now averages slightly less than $500 a year.

Fuel cost should also drop to at most $500 a year.

Differences between my Maverick estimates and KBB's numbers over 5 years:

Fuel: KBB $6,795, Me $2,500
Insurance: KBB $5,765, Me $2,500
Financing: KBB $2,331, Me $0 as I have a Ford Credit 0% loan

So right off the bat I will save $9,891 off those KBB numbers.

I also seriously doubt I will be paying $5,191 combined for Maintenance and Repairs on the two years the Maverick is not under warranty.

Example:

Here are the total costs for me owning a new 2015 Honda Fit Ex for a little over 7 years:

Total miles driven = 43824.00

Fees cost: 1240.00, per mile cost: 0.028
Gas cost: 3156.32, per mile cost: 0.072
Insurance cost: 4031.33, per mile cost: 0.092
Maintenance cost: 1281.29, per mile cost: 0.029
Purchase cost: 4086.00, per mile cost: 0.093
Repairs cost: 32.48, per mile cost: 0.001
Wash cost: 121.70, per mile cost: 0.003

Total cost: 13949.12, per mile cost: 0.318

They total easier. A lite hit offset to one side in back will bend the "frame" rail which costs $26,000 to replace.

No not really as the Maverick is either a Hybrid or Gas only.
It is not an EV type.

I am only paying $500 annually for full coverage.

I learned something new today! KBB has the ability to travel to the future! I mean, how else can they tell us the cost to own a vehicle for 5 years when it’s only been available for 2 years?

Yes, it’s sarcasm, but I’m certain the Tacoma will hold its value and be cheaper to maintain over time. Hopefully my Maverick will be good too but I’m not expecting Toyota reliability from it.

you are lucky in texas !! we have to change co. every 3-4 years and get the "special rate" then ever 6 mo. it slowly goes up. 68 years old no tickets no accidents ! been in florida, 49 years, it USE to be normal now ALL ins. rates STINK.we just lowered some coverage amounts ( still have full coverage) but keep trying to save $$ our friend. in ohio pays 1/2 of what we pay.

I was thinking the exact same thing! How can 5 year cost of ownership be determined on 2 vehicles that haven't been out 5 years? Are they guessing? I have to agree about the Tacoma holding it's value, as I used to have one (2018) and when I traded it I only lost about $1000 from what I paid for it and I had it for over a year and put 20K miles on it.
