So I was taking a look underneath the back seats in my Maverick Hybrid to familiarize myself with the vehicle and noticed that the 12v battery was under the seat in a special compartment.

As I was looking at the battery, I noticed some excess plastic/string stuff, see this video.

I was able to get little tweezers and pull off the little plastic/string and it came right off.

Here’s what the battery looked like after it was removed…notice the remainder of the plastic/sticker runs under the big sticker on the side.

Any idea what the little piece of plastic/string is? And does it matter that I removed it? I does anyone think it would cause any safety issues but wanted to ask.

Thanks!

Probably just came from the plastic moldings housing the battery. However, removing it could be a sign of OCD. :ROFLMAO: Seriously it is nothing to worry about.
Thanks - yeah, definitely a bit OCD. I honestly thought it was a piece of hair and wanted to get it with the blue piece of tape. After trying to “hook” it out with the blue piece of tape I realized it was plastic. You can even see at the end of this video how it was stretching.

So it won’t cause any issues that I removed it with tweezers? It just sort of ripped off. Some of it is still under that white sticker but I wasn’t going to mess with that haha.

Please delete this.
I have never handled a 12v battery before…I normally don’t mess with anything under the hood, but was surprised to find it under the seats.

Curiosity got the best of me and I just wanted to make sure that removing the tiny little plastic strand wouldn’t cause any issues since I have ZERO experience with car batteries.

If it's OCD then it could be considered life threatening or at least several deep discussions with a trusted long time friend who can reassure repeatedly without getting agitated and by doing so elevate any doubts.

Plastic waste aside, be aware that if you ever get stranded and need to have your truck jumped, the correct place to do that is the jump post under the hood on the driver's side - not at the battery under the rear seat.
There is a removable RED plastic piece that covers the Positive post . Open the hood and find it. The black arrow points to the Negative post.

Thanx for the reminder, Ozark. This is a totally new concept for me.

Probably just a plastic hair off an assembly robot that was pulling them out because he was getting dinged for installing bad failing batteries.

it's kind of like those old VWs that stored a spare engine in the back!
