Fathom will be the Slate killer. Slate is dead before it even comes out... It will sell a little but I do not see it lasting.

Rolling back by 2k would be possible for a Big 3 automaker. They could make an ad "get 2025 pricing today".

Could be a hit. Like "employee pricing for all". Would probably be about the same.

An obvious question to your proposal, is why Ford would need to sell a Maverick a dollar less than a bare bones 2 seat vehicle when the Maverick has a lot more to offer, and compared to a similarly equipped Slate, I doubt there would be much difference with the existing price.

Right now, the Slate is vaporware, rather than an actual vehicle.
Slate can announce anything they like, but until they actually start selling them at the end of next year (maybe), proposing a specific price down to the dollar for competition is silly.

If someone wants an EV, a dollar cheaper Maverick is unlikely to be a deal maker, but comparing value between the two could easily tip the scales to the Mav. Maybe some people don't want a grey plastic car with a dearth of features, but it may appeal to a short distance delivery business.

As was noted, the Fathom is more likely to be a direct competitor, as it's also being positioned as a low cost EV. No realistic comparisons beyond conjecture can be made there either.

Two problems with this.

1. Maverick is not electric. People are buying the slate because it’s the lowest priced new EV In the US.

2. Ford XL Maverick hybrid is still almost a few thousand more.

Bonus, the Fathom will compete with the Slate, not the Mav.

I'm torn on how successful the Slate will be. I can see there being enough people interested for the immediate sales to be decent but then tapering off quickly. However, I can also see the Slate being very popular with Fleet buyers and even being on the top of the list for any company that could use them.

Unfortunately I think Slate is going to find out that YouTube commenters don't drive vehicle sales, even though it is a pretty cool little vehicle. Even if it's reliable and reasonably well made, the price point is just not great compared to the Fathom, or a basic XL hybrid Maverick.

$15,000-17,000, then it's suddenly a lot more appealing, but that price is not happening. You can buy a BYD Atto 1 (Dolphin) in Australia for 20k AUD (14k USD).

I agree that the Slate will not impact Maverick sales in the least. Most Slate buyers are not even looking at Hybrids.

Slate originally partnered with Ford until they decided to go separate ways. Fathom now coming out on Slate’s heels.

Lawyers will be keeping busy in coming months unless they were careless during the split..

I don't see slate being big in fleet sales. When slate fails. All the fanboys will come out and say that it was destroyed by Ford. They will never admit it was a substandard offering for the price.

Why go through the transition to EV when you could have a more flexible and better equipped hybrid?

I am saying from the start: Maverick is feature rich by comparison, and could, if they wanted, sell for less than a Slate.

$1 buys bragging rights.

But Maverick is a legit excuse to stay hybrid.

IMO if the Slate had made it to market sooner, it would have either failed or become a “big deal”. Now that ford is getting to market with the Fathom, it kills a lot of interest in taking a risk with a startup.
Can say the same about the Maverick initially facing no real competition vs if Toyota introduced their compact pickup to North America at the same time.

I’m not arguing here but it has to be said.

People like me, want off oil. Off of the whole industry as much as possible. I’m talking ICE engines, not all the other petroleum stuff.

I own a hybrid because it was bridge to EV until an EV that met my needs came out. I’m trading my Mav for a Fathom.

I don’t want hybrid. I want EV.
And I have solar on my house. My electric bill last month was -$58
Yes, minus sign in front of that. In MN electric company buys my excess solar.
