I like the concept, but I'm with those who think it costs too much for what you get. To me it should be in the $15k - $18k range. By the time you add on the basics of what you want or need it's not cheap. The Mav and probably the upcoming small Ford EV truck will be a much better fit. If the REO truck actually happens it will also be an option.

It may well be a more reliable appliance than the one you own. Give it a chance. It is a great concept and no hidden fees to keep raising the price.
Ehh, it can‘t even toast bread.

What hidden fees???
The ones most dealers and manufacturers tack on to the advertised base price.

One good example is "Accessories", that Ford drops in at a cost of $995. Stargard, it is a subscription to a third party GPS program you don’t need. It is free through your phone on Google or Waze. If added you need to tell them to remove it.

Slate will still have a destination charge - same as every manufacturer.

Dealer fees are a different gamble, but Slate will still have a doc fee.

And gov't fees/taxes aren't changing.

How many states will Slates Manufacturer direct to Consumer sales model be allowed?
For Tesla the biggest independent dog in the yard right now. 40 States out of 50 have some restrictions if not total outright bans.
Some states don't even allow Tesla Service Centers.

They only need to be allowed in enough to turn a profit. I may be naive, but I'll speculate that they're not seeking complete global domination with their initial offering.

Has anyone read the Motortrend article about the 30k Ranchero Ford supposedly coming out with, and I quote, Hot on the heals of Slate! Is this going to be the story of what automakers did to Tucker. Timing seems to be to obvious. Based on the Pic in the article, I don't believe it could be sold that cheaply.

That's a nice chunk change.
Good news for some lucky qualifying, first time, EV buyers in California.👍🏻

Update:
It appears late has confirmed its destination fee.
Slate Auto has officially confirmed that its base electric pickup truck will start at $24,950, with a mandatory $1,450 destination fee, bringing the real base price to $26,400. The customizable, modular EV truck features a 205-mile range,
