Over the weekend my Maverick lost all power while I was driving 65 mph on the interstate!!! The engine cut off and the battery went dead. No power to lights, no brakes, no power steering, no power whatsoever! It was very scary!! I was eventually able to drift the car to the median, but was nearly in an awful accident because I had no brakes. I'm sure I drifted 1/4 to a 1/2 mile. Once over to the side of the road, the car remained without power. The vehicle wouldn't even respond to the key fob. The vehicle has only about 8k miles. I understand from reading other posts that there is an issue with the battery wiring harness. It's unfathomable that Ford would sell a vehicle that could lose all power while in operation. I have had the vehicle towed to a Ford Dealer and have reached out to Ford about the issue

Seems like this known issue warrants a safety recall to inspect each Hybrid for the faulty cable at least for a temporary repair if a replacement is not available. I would not allow my wife or family to drive a vehicle with this concern.

As much as having a loss of power sucks in every way, losing ALL brakes is even more of a safety issue, and both issues warrant a report to the NHTSA.

A few questions, if you're up to answering them.

On your door jamb, what is the date of manufacture listed as? There is a TSB on hybrids for power loss that fall within certain date ranges.

Also, did you get an alert on your instrument cluster when power was lost to "Stop safely now", or did it just go blank?

Lastly, when you say that you lost brakes, do you mean that the truck did not respond at all to the brake pedal after the power loss, or do you mean that you could not engage the parking brake after you were stopped?

yeah, every car I've ever driven I get at least one good push of the brakes after losing power. does the mav have an e-brake?
Yes, electric parking brake so no battery means no brake.

doh! I'm not sure how my current parking brakes work but they both seem mechanical. on my old car there was a cable that actually pulled on the rear calipers and squeezed them shut.

Thanks, I will absolutely submit a report.

It's at the dealer, so I can't check the door jamb. My purchase/sale documents indicate it was manufactured and sent to original dealer 12/15/21.

I did not get any kind of alert on the instrument panel. It just went blank instantaneously.

The Maverick brakes are hydraulic. What felt like "no brakes" was likely just loss of power assistance. Same as the power steering going out. You can still steer, but it's gonna take more work.

Every car has brake redundancy.

My Hybrid just died as well this weekend ( for the second time) however it happened in my driveway so it was a lot less exciting. It is ridiculous that this is a known issue that is a HUGE safety concern and Ford isn't doing anything about it until you approach them. The first time it happened several months ago I took it the dealer, showed them the information and nothing was done. Now I am without a truck, no loaner and am told it will be a month for parts. I am not holding my breath as I was told it would only be a 3 month wait on my truck that turned into 11. I love my truck but Ford has lost my confidence. The whole experience was something I was so excited about but not so much now.

Sorry this happened to you. I have the same issue and I am waiting on a response from Ford as well

The TSB may apply to your truck. It covers trucks built on or before May 13, 2022. Although you had a different symptom at first, I'm sure after you stopped you also had the defined symptom of no power.

https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...vericks-built-on-or-before-may-13-2022.21114/

Also, reading that it didn't even manage to give an error and have you pull over is concerning in the extreme.

I edited my comment with a question on the brakes also, to ask if you had no brakes at the brake pedal right after the power loss (sometimes a loss of power/vacuum brakes can feel like no brakes, but they still work if you press down HARD), or if you mean that the parking brake would no engage.
