Cool idea! I also bought the Fumoto valve & extension but haven't installed it yet. I have a valve on my Mazda 3 & it's great for oil changes. Do you have a link for the marine access panel or are they easy to find?

How does that work? It's not like you open the drain screw and the oil drains straight down. It always comes out in a slanted stream until it gets low.

The valve has (and some come with) a clear tube that runs down and through the fiber pan. Open valve, oil drains through the tube.

Mine is 4x4, but with the fiber pan. I am sure lots of us would trade you if you have the metal skid plate. If I have the correct mental picture of that plate, you could still do the mod.

No problem with a little disagreement on this.... if you don't mind pulling all those connectors and dropping the cover, have at it. One twist and I am there, but to each his own.
I think this is a great idea and a huge time and effort advantage if one is DIY their oil change. Thanks for posting.

I took a marine access plate and located it directly under the oil filter. I have an oil drain valve, but could not install it without the extension (which I now have). Plans are to be able to reach up and open the valve which will have a drain tube. I have an old shade tree mechanic habit of painting any upgrades on my rig, and when the whole thing is a new color, time to replace it or chrome it, LOL.

It does make me wonder why Ford couldn't have done something either just like this or similar to make oil changes that much easier! I would certainly do this to my Maverick, but I'm lucky in that all my oil changes are free from my local dealership.

to bad you don't live closer. thanks again. i'm going to look and see if the hybrid looks like the same as your shield so it would help me decide where to cut at. don't want it too look like frankstein stiching

What size diameter? 8 inch?
I seen 6" diamter. that forum member did on his ecoboost. i'm going to take a thin ice pick and run it through the shield to hit the center of the oil filter and then mark the shield 3" on both sides of the ice pick and 3" on top and bottom.
then cut three of the for sides. use 4th side as hinge and zip tie the opposing side.
wish i knew better way then zip tie. maybe someone will share.
