Hi. Thanks ahead for any help.
I have 23 hyrbird.
Has anyone cut a hole into the shield under the engine to get to oil filter.
I saw the dimensions that member JB6 used to cut a square in his shield for oil filter access and oil drain plug. But his is an ecoboost.
Maybe the dimensions and where to cut a hole at are the same for the ecoboost. I just don't know

I sure would like to have someone with dimensions to share that has already did the cutting into the shield.

For the oil drain. Not sure what I will do. either hand pump it out or cut more of the existing rectangle that give access already. I will just go a couple more inches
so the oil drain won't get on top the shiled.

Thank you for your response billbillw.

10k would be nice. I just arrived at 2000 miles and meters shows 62% life, so it looks like oil
change at 5,000 miles. right? Therefore will need more oil changes if I continue on the figures shared.

And if I could remove filter without removing the bolts, then thats the preference.
It would be quicker and less potential to misaligning of those clamps that the bolts/torx would go through or in some cases others have shared the clamps won't stay in place.

I used these measurements for my hybrid.........my shield is a little different than this one but the measurements worked out the same for me. had to do some fabricating since my shield has a large hole where the oil drain plug is. covered the hole, made the "door" cuts, and installed latches to make oil changes possible without removing the shield. hoping to have some access panels 3d printed in the future to install. haven't had any issues so far.

The shield comes off easily. If you stick to the roughly 10k drain interval, you won't be doing it more than a couple times a year, unless you drive mega-mileage.
Right! Just take off the shield. For 15 years, I took the 11-bolt shield off my Miata to change oil filter every year, regardless of mileage. This was metal screws into a cardboard shield, not a comfortable situation. Then, someone told me that I can come in from the top just by removing the support bar that attaches the block to the chassis. To quote Archie Bunker, Ipso Fatso!

2023 maverick lariat hybrid install 6 inch boat hatch cover for the drain plug & oil filter using the measurements from above also eye balling it the best i could. used gorilla duct tape and screws from home depot this is my finished product. cut holes with a 6 1/2 inch hole saw from amazon the rear hole i taped card board each side closed the opening in the shield then used saw to cut the access for the hatch cover installed cover then added more screws into tape to keep tape secured.

Splendid idea, your fabrication makes me want to do oil changes more often.
All suitable materials. I like seeing people fabricate for effiency.

I will probably cut a 5 by 5 square hole for the oil filter, allowing the existing shield material to be bent about an inch or two just south (towards rear of the truck) of the oil filter using the bend as its own hinge and finish cutting the square towards the front of the truck.
And then use 3 or 4 zip ties to close the square hole securely.
I will do this without removing the shield under the truck.

And on my 23 maverick, part of the shield already opens where the oil drain plug is. therefore only need to make a straight line cut to the rear about 2 inches long and maybe 2 more inches toward the passenger side of truck. to the passenger side. This will area will always have open space
accessible to remove drain bolt and allow oil to flow freely, especially as the open
flows at a downward pitch vigorously for about 4 inches (from what I seen on videos) for about 2 seconds

The boat hatch cover is a really smart idea.

This forum is so good for Maverick owners! I get ideas all the time.
I know Ford watches it, maybe they could just have the shield made with the oil filter hole? Even the dealers would appreciate it.

Not quite. Oil Life is function of time and driving. Even if you drive just 1 mile in a year you would need to change your oil (according to Ford). So it's a whichever comes first algorithm.

Since Ford monitors your Oil Life, I wouldn't exceed it if you ever need to make a warranty claim.

I was considering carving up my Hybrid shield. I did my first oil/filter change and decided then that carving up the shield is not worth it because it is EASILY REMOVEABLE. A cheap electric screwdriver and a set of car ramps and you are home free. Also you get to inspect the axles/boots/shocks, etc. I say DO NOT BOTHER.
