The Hybrid comes with Grade Control when you lift off the gas pedal it shows a little green truck going down a grade slowingI suspect it is like the Chevy Volt, where L increases regen. It would have no effect on acceleration, but would help keeping speed under control going downhill.
I know they have a low button in the hybrid, as I have seen them on the reviews. If it had an 8 speed auto as with the ecoboost, it would lock in low speed. What would make low low in a one speed ECVT?
Sounds like my 15 Prius when shifter is set to B; handy when descending long hills or coming down a mountain pass. The engine does stay on in B, and does rev high doing its regenerative engine braking thing in that mode at speed; fuel economy suffers from it as a result. After having gotten mine I can say all L does in the hybrid when using the throttle is maybe keeping the engine on more often.
It engages engine braking quite nearly instantly when going downhill and the regen braking is set to max.
Engine is quite loud when engaged as such.
I would say that in most driving conditions you won’t need L. I use it only when I need to ensure I don’t gain speed while going slow downhill. (Carrying cargo)
Does the brake lights activate when decelerating? I tried one pedal driving in town…it is possible but potentially dangerous if car behind you has no warningFor the hybrid I don't think LOW does anything for moving the vehicle forward. It seems to only increase the regenerative braking effect.
The only thing I find in the owners manual is the following: "LOW (L) This mode is for driving on steep slopes. The transmission will hold low gear for maximum torque driving uphill and maximum engine braking driving downhill. You can enter this mode at any vehicle speed. Noterolonged use of this mode could lower fuel economy. With your vehicle in drive (D), press the L button to enter this mode."
This entry does specify which Maverick model it is referring to. I have not felt any difference in my hybrid using LOW or not using LOW when cruising or accelerating. The only difference I feel is when you let off the power and coast. The regenerative braking effect is enhanced. Since can activate this at any speed, it stands to reason it does nothing for a CVT.
The regenerative breaking is max under Low, and the other difference is Tow/Haul the engine runs virtually nonstop when driving unless you're coasting and charging.Low "speed", or low "gear"??? (for a 2.0)
Is this similar to a "Tow-Haul" mode?

Not one speed. Variable ratio. Don't know if it's infinitely variable ratio.I know they have a low button in the hybrid, as I have seen them on the reviews. If it had an 8 speed auto as with the ecoboost, it would lock in low speed. What would make low low in a one speed ECVT?
In Texas, we just shut down the schools and roads when there's "ice days". (except those large pickups making convenience store beer runs come h... or high water)I live in Minnesota we have lots of ice.
4 wheel drive is great for getting going but stopping is in the skill of the driver. An "L" button is not the way to do it. Take a winter driving course and learn how to handle ice.
