I suspect it is like the Chevy Volt, where L increases regen. It would have no effect on acceleration, but would help keeping speed under control going downhill.
The Hybrid comes with Grade Control when you lift off the gas pedal it shows a little green truck going down a grade slowing 🐌 down the truck and helps put the truck in the green Zone which is a good thing 😀

After having gotten mine I can say all L does in the hybrid when using the throttle is maybe keeping the engine on more often.

It engages engine braking quite nearly instantly when going downhill and the regen braking is set to max.

Engine is quite loud when engaged as such.

I would say that in most driving conditions you won’t need L. I use it only when I need to ensure I don’t gain speed while going slow downhill. (Carrying cargo)

In town I can one pedal drive with L engaged….question is should I?
When using dynamic braking (regenerative braking) do the brake lights come on with no brake pedal movement? Should I be worried about getting rear ended?
My CanAm Spyder will auto downshift to a complete stop with no brake activity…this ghost braking led me to get a deceleration brake light to warn people behind me. I wonder if this might not be a good idea for the Hybrid?

I have always wondered about the brake light thing. As I have mentioned too many times, I move vehicles for several of my local dealers. The most achy-brakey electric regenerative vehicle I have experienced is the BMW i3. DAMN! You take your foot off of the accelerator in that, and you really deceleralerate quickly!!! I felt very unsafe thinking the brake lights do not illuminate under such drastic slowing conditions.

Thank you for this this - I just assumed the weak regen was just the way it was and get use to it. My jeep wrangler 4xe with max regen was true one pedal driving, with brake light coming on immediately. the regen is so strong that to slow down, I actually have to modulate the gas, removing my foot causing FAST braking. As fast as any normal to quick stop. Loved that 190 HP braking (had to reorder as some moron ran a red light last month and totaled my new jeep)

I know they have a low button in the hybrid, as I have seen them on the reviews. If it had an 8 speed auto as with the ecoboost, it would lock in low speed. What would make low low in a one speed ECVT?

Low "speed", or low "gear"??? (for a 2.0)

Is this similar to a "Tow-Haul" mode?

I live in Minnesota we have lots of ice.
4 wheel drive is great for getting going but stopping is in the skill of the driver. An "L" button is not the way to do it. Take a winter driving course and learn how to handle ice.

Sounds like my 15 Prius when shifter is set to B; handy when descending long hills or coming down a mountain pass. The engine does stay on in B, and does rev high doing its regenerative engine braking thing in that mode at speed; fuel economy suffers from it as a result.

For the hybrid I don't think LOW does anything for moving the vehicle forward. It seems to only increase the regenerative braking effect.

The only thing I find in the owners manual is the following: "LOW (L) This mode is for driving on steep slopes. The transmission will hold low gear for maximum torque driving uphill and maximum engine braking driving downhill. You can enter this mode at any vehicle speed. Note:prolonged use of this mode could lower fuel economy. With your vehicle in drive (D), press the L button to enter this mode."

This entry does specify which Maverick model it is referring to. I have not felt any difference in my hybrid using LOW or not using LOW when cruising or accelerating. The only difference I feel is when you let off the power and coast. The regenerative braking effect is enhanced. Since can activate this at any speed, it stands to reason it does nothing for a CVT.
Does the brake lights activate when decelerating? I tried one pedal driving in town…it is possible but potentially dangerous if car behind you has no warning

I wonder about this also. I haven't checked. I watched a YouTube video on the Powerboost and asked this same question. I'm going to have to have my son follow me and report on it. The enhanced "braking" is significant. I would think the brake lights should come on, but I just don't know.

The regenerative breaking is max under Low, and the other difference is Tow/Haul the engine runs virtually nonstop when driving unless you're coasting and charging.

I did a quick test tonight. My son followed me while we communicated over the phone. He never saw brake lights during any use of regenerative braking. It didn't matter if I was using LOW or not. I can't say regenerative braking never ever activates the brake lights, but apparently it doesn't. Take this for what it is worth. Your results may vary.

Not one speed. Variable ratio. Don't know if it's infinitely variable ratio.

In Texas, we just shut down the schools and roads when there's "ice days". (except those large pickups making convenience store beer runs come h... or high water)
