The Hybrid 12v is a small one compared to the Eco's.
I plan on (preventative maintenance) replacing my Eco's AGM (with an exact match) in September. As it will be four years old in October.
MY Rangers' batteries lasted 4.5 - 5 years...
It will only cost me, $250 (exact match) and THATS from a local FORD dealer..

Sounds like alot of propaganda. Give me a link to a PROVEN case where a dog or a cat ate a rat that died from poison and then they died. I looked all over the WWW to see if that HAS happened, before I used the bait I used. I could not find a single case. No one. Anywhere. Lots of cases where dogs and cats accidentally get into the bait or got poisoned by some A hole neighbor deliberately poisoning their pets that might be crapping in their yard. But NOT from a poisoned rat. But since you changed the subject to accidentally killing animals....how about vehicles? How many dogs and cats and foxes, coyotes, eagles, owls, cows, horses, deer, skunks and everything else that go across roads have been killed by getting hit by a vehicle? Millions. Maybe you should be riding a bicycle so you don't kill some wildlife.

Propane Burning Man, I don't have a link, but I did have a couple of dead cats. The first one the vet said it was definitely poison the cat died of, she said to quit using rodent killers. I told her I did not, but I knew this old neighbor did, and he kept it in his barn, which was also a shop, and it was airtight, so the cat couldn't have gotten to the bait. Vet immediately said, then she ate a poisoned rodent. This is what I know to have happened. Since I lost a buddy that used to sleep at my feet the same end, but he died on the way to the vet. Vet says it's usually about a 6 to 12 hour cycle from ingestion to death, and it is a painful death.

Try this search link I see reading this they act like it's rare. I only have the one vet, and she says she sees this all the time. Maybe these folks writing opinions about how "rare" it is ought to leave this to the vets that are taking care of these dying pets?

To all who talked about which dealer, my attorney suggested I not say who. Actually after all of this has happened I have spent some time trying to discern if there is a FORD dealer anywhere close to me, that is worth trying to deal with, and so far I have not been thrilled by any of them, and I live in the country, but it's between Dayton, and Cincinnati Ohio, which has quite a few dealers. I will say they are East of Dayton Ohio, and the dealers location used to be a Honda dealer. I had dealt with them, and they were first rate, but when it went to FORD they have a new business name involved, and they suk. Actually were just adequate through the buy, it was service that they started showing themselves to be not so good.


Techcar, I have called FORD, also told the dealer what I thought of their fraud business, so they are both informed. At this point I just want to put my story out there to hopefully keep other working folks from getting the same fate I had buying a FORD product.

Glen Baker LLC, Got it, the WOKE companies are trying to use materials that are junk, but also "GREEEN" so they get votes from the prissy party. Thing is there would need to be rodents to eat the wire, and the herd of cats all eat more than we feed them, so it's like putting out rodent be gone. Chops, we are out in the country. Rodents aren't a secret. They are everywhere, but we have a tribe of barn cats, and anywhere around where we are, the rodents are pretty thin, they don't last too long.



zen_ I did take it to my regular mechanic, he checked it out looking at it as a definite safety issue, he spent some time at my request to find if it was safe to drive, or not. Once it had a good battery all of the warning lights, and goofy codes went away. He's a good mechanic, and the most important thing is I trust him. The pics with circles, and arrows are his.


jkennedy293, It really wasn't a long time thing. I could be standing with the hood up and this dumb Grackle Mommy would fly right in with me standing there. Mouthful of straw and grass. She was non stop during daylight hours. I had considered getting the shotgun out and treat her like a clay bird. I didn't before, she comes back around doing that stuff, she's dusted.

ricwan, They texted me the response to what was going on with my truck, telling me they FOUND rodent damage, but there is no rodent damage to be found by certified mechanics working at the shop I usually go to. This is where they dropped the $9,000.00 bomb, but I still have the text, just no idea how I could send it to this forum?


gjallen, we have lost 2 cats to a neighbor who used a lot of poisons for rodents. I won't use it because of this truth, but a lot of folks don't have, or like cats, so a popular choice sadly for the animals that go after them wobbling around

I would say that I would be skeptical that a bird brought all that straw into your engine bay. Unless you leave your hood open all the time, than maybe it’s possible.
I would guess seed my your pics, that the straw was not brought in by a bird.
I could easily be wrong.

My buddies one year old Subaru cross trek was totaled because of squirrels eating the wiring.
We saw no damage. Until my Ford dealer opened a few things up.
They gave him $15,000 for a trade in on his 2025 Maverick Eco Lariat. He wrote a check for the balance and bought a jug of rodent repellent.
He sprays a squirt or two under the hood once a month.
So far so good.
I park mine out in the open and drive it almost daily.
His went to town once a week for supplies.

I have adopted a rule since about 1995 = Go to nearest battery store or nowadays Tractor Supply (seems to have best or close to it price) and put a new one in when anything electric is going wrong (much cheaper than dealer or anyone charging for diagnosis). Then if problem still happens I deal with it. I don't mind having one or more old batteries on solar charger to use as backups with inverters for fridges, freezers, chain saws, etc when needed. I currently have 14 200amp 6 volt amg that test fine and 2 which will not pass noco g10 optimization. Intent is to use them to pump well and maintain constant 65 psi water pressure from 1000 gallon surface tank. Current well pressure is 40-60 psi variable with well cycling as needed.

It’s called Secondary Poisoning. There are articles all over the internet about it. Specifically the dangers of raptors consuming what appears to them to be an easy catch of a disoriented poisoned animal.

The simplest solution to the hybrids battery issues is a lithium swap. Boat guys long moved to 12v lithium alternatives, they work much better with infrequent charging.

I have a 2024 Maverick, XL Hybrid, bought new (7/13/24) with just under 1 year of warranty left. A few months ago I Suddenly had start, and running problems. I see from this owners groups this is a known problem with battery issues. Mine got to the point it would hardly start, and most of the time it did start, it would then just shut off. I worried if I could drive it to the dealer to see about service, well I was scared I may loose power on the freeway, so I had it towed to the dealer I bought it from. I told them the problem. and that I had read the battery was a likely problem. My dealer, name withheld at this time, instead tried to tell me I needed a $9.000.00 wiring harness replacement due to "rodent damage" they gave me pictures to show this damage, however they were from so far away you couldn't see anything, and I do believe this was part of their scam. Anyhow there is no rodent damage to be found. I did have a bird trying to nest under the hood, and she kept dragging in straw to make her nest, but even me doing an inspection could see none of these rodent chewed wires.

Fearing a scam I had my truck towed to my personal mechanic who I do trust. He spent some time looking for "rodent damage", and all he could find was a battery that would not hold a charge, or start the truck. The battery was replaced, and viola the "rodent damage" went away. So now I am out of pocket for over $700.00 to replace a battery still under warranty, and a lot of man hours LOOKING for rodent damage that did NOT exist. The battery was used with a jumper station, and taken out and tested by them, and their battery company, and it has been found to be dead, and unable to hold a charge. I have kept the battery, and plan to allow the media to do independent testing to verify this. After talking to local news a few of them are pretty interested in a "Can you trust your car dealer" story

I spent over $29,000.00, on a truck I have not driven 5,000 miles yet, and had to buy at MY expense a new battery, because Ford puts cheap crap in their vehicles, and their representing dealers try to invent damage that isn't there, so their service department can make a big score.

I have also called the FORD complaint line, talked to a nice young Lady, who said someone would be contacting me right away about this. I can still hear the crickets chirping. A month, and no word from FORD. I can assure you, anyone that wants to hear my FORD experience is welcome to hear it, no lies just really bad service. I wouldn't suggest anyone buy a FORD product.

These are pics the Ford dealer gave me of the "RODENT DAMAGE" there are several, at least you can see wiring in the 3 that I am posting here, most of them there are no wires in the shot at all. What there is are pieces of straw from the bird.

The following pics are from my mechanic, he either circled, or put an arrow to any wiring in the shot. There are several of them, and you cannot see any "rodent damage" in any of them, plus with detailed visual inspection by 2 of his best guys, they saw no damage, but after testing the battery they did find it to be dead, and it wouldn't hold a charge. New AGM battery made the rodent damage go away, amazing. Not sure what you call that where you live, but here in Ohio we call that fraud. Invented problem to sell a big money repair.

I loved this truck, then it had a problem. Had it been addressed properly, and professionally all would have been fine. After this fraud attempt I'm not real keen on the truck, even though it appears ok for now. My issue with the truck is how many $350.00 batteries do I need to buy, how often. Seems anything you may have saved in gas with the hybrid goes up in smoke with battery cost. I know one thing FORD isn't on my Christmas card list anymore, and that dealer could fall into a fiery chasm, and I would applaud.

Given the amount of dry grass, pine straw and other materials in the first pictures I'd be much more concerned about an engine compartment fire. I'd say more than likely all the stuff for the nest was rodent originated. Birds usually don't build nests under closed hoods but rodents do. You would be surprised how quickly that stuff will ignite when in direct contact with an exhaust manifold or turbocharger. Once that fire starts even with a fire extinguisher in the truck you may not be able to save the truck. I deal with heavy equipment, engine compartments need blown out everyday to remove combustible leaves, twigs & stuff. Otherwise engine fires will happen just sayin...........
