Good Sunday Morning All,

I am considering renting a Coachman Viking Express 9.0TD that has a GVWR of around 1500lbs +/-. It has a 7-pin trailer harness and, of course, my '23 Lariat has the 4-pin. I do not have the 4K package, so no brake controller or anything like that. Anybody want to share some watch outs or don't try it warnings. I actually have complete confidence that the Maverick can handle it - I've done a lot of towing in different vehicles, so I'm just looking for the Crazy Ivan I am not thinking of.

Side Note: Anybody have a good 4-pin to 7-pin adapter they want to recommend?

Haven’t had the need to try anything like this since mine has both, but "maybe" an adapter from etrailer, Part Number: 30717

^I added one of those to my truck.

Plug n Play for the first 4 wires.

The 5th one, Blue, I ran to an an actual brake controller mounter in the cubby space in front of the gear selector knob.

The sixth wire is optional. Only needed if your trailer has reverse lamps on it. (A lot don't). The 7th wire is constant 12v power supply for all trailer accessories.

You can also get a variant that has both 7-pin and 4-pin for your truck. I actually got that one.

I have not installed yet but I have a 2022 lariat with the 4-pin. I intend to install the curt 4 pin to 7 pin round. The adapter has the blue wire used for trailer brake control along with a supply wire to battery positive
Once the 7 pin is installed curt has a "mobile" Bluetooth controller that plugs into the 7 pin and uses a Bluetooth cell phone app which allows you to move the controller between several vehicles and trailers by simply choosing the combinations in the app. I suspect that the app could be loaded into maverick and ran on the info screen in truck just pairing truck to controller. If you do not want the 7 pin controller they have a controller that hooks to the blue wire.

Our plans fell through but it looks like I'll need more time to get an adapter installed anyhow, so it's all good. I looked at the Curt adapter and Bluetooth interface and it looks like a great tool, but it's kind of pricey (in total) for something I just don't know how often we'll use it, so we're on the bubble with that one, but tilting hard.

You will need a brake controller. I installed the etrailer four pin to seven pin listed above. Ran a wire up front to the battery for 12 volts and used a Curt Echo wireless controller with my phone for three years on my Bronco Sport. My Mav has the 4K tow package so not needed.

I've towed a utility trailer loaded down with garden soil, castle blocks, and pavers just fine, of course it took a little more braking, but not too bad at all. Trailer and pavers weigh close to 1,700 lbs., not to mention the spare, pallet, and cargo net.
