I may never need to but I like knowing that I can.
MDF is a very interesting item. To get an idea of choices go to a large grocery store and look at the baking aisle. Everything that can be made with different flours etc is an indication of MDF choices. MDF is actually a type of dense bread or cake or etc which is prepared using wood, soy bean, wheat, rice, many plants "dust" aka "flour" and a "binder" aka "glue, powdered corn cobs, egg yolks, etc, etc". MDF depending on how much moisture it will be exposed to needs to be adequately coated with a deeply penetrating sealer maybe 3 or more coats. Some sealers may require 72 hours between coats. Then painted. (I custom made 900 feet of 6" triple pass routed mdf base board for my house and saved several thousand $$$.).

Last week I bought 3 sheet of plywood from Home Depot and brought them home in my Maverick.
I put the tailgate in its 'higher' position, which lines itself up with the same height as the fender wheel well arches and loaded in the plywood.
Using the tabs on the tailgate I strapped down the plywood and off I went.

Overall impression: loading and carrying 4x8 sheets of plywood is easy. I did add a red, plastic flag, as the plywood does extend past the tailgate.
If you have any concerns about transporting 4x8 sheets of anything in the bed of your Maverick.....don't.

Unfortunately, I didn't think about snapping a photo of the loaded plywood until I'd unloaded it. :cautious:
Hauling plywood sheets was a design requirement that goes back the the original Ranger. This was a design requirement by the brass at Ford who felt that people would not consider it a "real truck" if it couldn't haul this building staple.

I am glad the maverick also can do so. I have done so in both the Ranger and my Maverick.

How do you put the tailgate in that higher position? Is that a feature on all Mavericks? I asked my dealer, and he didn’t know.

whaaa? That was the first thing my sales person showed me. They had a XL on the lot (buying a “truck” was not even on my mind). He flipped open the tri fold tonneau cover and set the tailgate in the higher position. Then I sat in it and I was hooked!

Plywood sits in the bed perfectly with the Maverick compared to my dads Tacoma. Had to rest the plywood up on one wheel couldn’t get it to rest on both plus no middle tailgate position.

Nice comparison, especially with the picture.

I've hauled plywood in Maverick and my Odyssey (which fits flat if you stow the rear seat, pull the middle seats out, and push the front seats forward just a couple inches from all the way back).

Maverick is so much easier. :D

I got really chapped when I discovered that a standard piece of 49"x97" MDF would not fit in the 48 3/4" opening of the tailgate!!!!!😱
That's not a standard size for MDF. Who makes that 1" wider and 1" longer than standard? Standard sizes are 4x8 and 6x10. They also use 122mm width in Europe, which is just a hair larger than the American standard 4' width. Your funny size will not fit properly in a lot of trucks.

Anyone make or use anything other than lumber for bed segmenting spaces? Thinking about that recycled milk carton material that lasts forever so I don't have to worry about moisture or rotting.

Either a lot more people purchase plywood on a regular basis than I ever imagined or a lot of people have lofty ideas of projects they will never complete lol
I have a house and three outbuildings. A lot of things come in 4x8 sheets.

From Home Depot
In addition the 6"x10 ft MDF is actual 0.667"x5.5"x120" size.

What's the point of getting any truck unless it's to have the capability to do such things? Even if you only need it once every few years it means not needing to rent a truck. You are buying a level of convenience for jobs.

Plywood and drywall both come in 4x8 sheets so it's kind of a standard for capacity. Other stuff like paneling can come in 4' width as well.

If you buy a truck just because the bed looks cool, more power to you. But you can also do practical stuff.

If you own a home, once you start getting quotes for things like drywall work a lot of people suddenly realize that DIY isn't all that hard and is thousands of dollars cheaper.

Saving that much money is fun! Sometimes it's even enough to afford a down payment on another Maverick.:)

I understand all the things you’re saying. The convenience of a small bed is great. For me the Maverick works great towing my small boat.

I own two homes and a condo and I’ve never purchased a sheet of drywall in my life haha.
