What is everyone's thoughts on the maverick in the long term?

I know it's too new to have real world results but how does everyone think it will age? I'm not so much concerned about motor/trans (I'm considering hybrid) but more about the rest of the vehicle...rust, sensors, suspension, interior, etc since they are built to a price point.

Background of why I'm asking...I do service work that a car is too small and a half ton is too big and because I drive around all day, looking for great economy. I feel the Maverick would be perfect! I usually buy $2500 cars (taurus wagon)and drive them 2-3 years and then take them to the junkyard because trans is worn or just not worth putting any more money into. This go around I ended up with a mercury sable sedan and it's just too small. These cars are getting harder to find that are any good and in general are too small for me since I'm 6'2" so was considering a Maverick with an extended warranty from Grainger for 8-10yr. I feel I'm going to have to switch to a ford flex or some sort of minivan since my beloved taurus wagons are getting harder to find. A flex or minivan or transit connect seem to be fetching more money that in 8-10 years of throw aways, I would have close to what a Maverick with extended warranty would be.

I tried searching this subject but couldn't find anything.

Thanks in advance for people's thoughts/opinions

Might want to look into a used plug-in hybrid. You'll qualify for a tax credit. See if your state or utility has other rebates/credits too.

Something like a C-max energi? Prius Prime / Kia Niro / Hyundai Ioniq any PHEV could be a sweet deal for ya.

If you want to buy new, the hybrid Mav is a great deal. Sounds like you don't mind use - and if you get plug-in incentives, you can score an even better deal (and you don't need to plug it in, just drive it as a hybrid and pocket the rebates)

I plan on trading it in/selling it, in 2-3 years, while demand is high and getting the Toyota Stout (if it actually comes out). I had a 4Runner for 14 years, camarys and a Lexus, all solidly reliable, never a worry. However, with all that being said, the Mav could change my mind and end up being a trusty little truck.

2 years + and so far good vehicle for me . of course I only drive occasionally to run errands and such . have less than 6k miles and garaged . have added some accessories to make it usable for me . especially the hard tonneau trifold cover for security to protect items in bed . keep cooler in bed for groceries .

I have no idea to be honest, for the most part I've always had larger ford vehicles (still do) F150, Expedition, Bronco's etc. In all the years they've been reliable in my experiences. It won't be a long term vehicle for me simply since I trade every 5-6 years. I would expect the power train to be quite reliable, maybe search history of Escapes, etc since that's basically what it is but with a bed added on.

My biggest longevity concerns are all the expensive computers and sensors that may fail over the course of ownership. However, all new vehicles are loaded with electronics and safety equipment, so there's no way to avoid that any more.

If you drive city miles a lot, the hybrid is the way to go. Much better mileage, no conventional automatic transmission to worry about and no turbo. Maintenance should be much less, since the gas engine is running much less. Also less brake wear with regenerative braking. Expect at least 100k out of a set of brake pads. The Hybrid part of the truck has an 8 year/100k warranty.

There really isn't much that hasn't been used before on the mav. The ecoboost motor has been revised to eliminate the issues it had. The transmissions don't seem to be particularly fragile. If you follow a good maintenance regimen and don't abuse it I don't see any reason why they would be less reliable long term than the escapes it was based on.

The cars you listed look too small. I did look at a Cmax before but too small.

I would prefer not to buy new, but with a Maverick, it's probably cheaper to buy new.

I've always bought American but it's hard to resist the longevity and reliability of Toyota. I was wondering if the Stout will actually come out or not? I'm intrigued by the rumors.

We picked up a high-mileage Sienna for my wife a year and a half ago for $2000. She uses it like a "work" car too, easy to fold the back seats down & tons of space. It's been amazing! But not the great mileage of a hybrid of course...

I have worries that the Maverick will become a rust bucket before its time. Here in the Northeast, rust has been the cause of death of all the vehicles I've owned (I'm 62 years old and have had a few).

I had my 2022 XLT hot oil undercoated this fall.

I can't help myself from suggesting a used Forester. One of the most bland, boring, functional vehicles ever. I could never get myself to pull the trigger because it was a bit big for my needs. But it has a humongous storage area, does well in winter conditions, and has amazing visibility. I test drove Foresters a few times over the years, and every single time I was blown away by the visibility and utility.

Whenever a normal person asks me what to buy for their family in the snow belt, Forester is the first thing I spit out.

I plan on keeping mine for a long time and must have gotten a good one as I have had none of the issues other owners have talked about. I am coming up on 7K in my first year and overall, I am averaging around 40mpg in town and local driving. On the highway at 70mph I drop down to about 32mpg, but I don't do lots of highway driving so I enjoy the higher mileage of the Hybrid and it has good power for a small truck. My son is 6'4" and he has a good fit and still has headroom but rear seat passenger would be cramped for space. I have an XLT Lariat and my previous vehicle was a 2015 Subaru Forester which I sold to my son when I bought the Maverick and it was a great, reliable and efficient crossover. It also was a top of the line Touring model and there are times that I miss it as I really loved that car as well and it also got low to mid thirties mpg, good for an AWD.

I never kept a vehicle more than 3/4 years am retired now and spent 45 years in the automotive industry, I would tell family and friends never buy the first year model so what do I do I buy a 22 Maverick XLT, LUX, FX4, 4K TOW, its a cool little truck. With the cost of new cars these days 45/50k I can't afford a new vehicle every 3/4 years living on a fixed income anymore. I only drive now 7/8k miles a year now so you would think a vehicle will last a while, in the old days it was nothing to get 150 even 200k or 10/15 years out of vehicle, not anymore smaller engines and turbos took care of that. So for the first time in driving 55 years I bought a extended warranty At Granger 1500 and have a feeling am going to use it hearing some of the stories on this site and the tube, transmissions, turbos, axles, window motors, radios, etc. so am going to change my oil every 5k and follow all manufacture recommendations'. AND HOPE FOR THE BEST.

Of all the things to worry about the Maverick, I'd say the biggest problem will likely be the electronics. I'm not worried about the hybrid system directly, as much as other items. There are ready people going through some of the big 300 amp fuses under the hood, several times for example (mine included). That's fine under warranty, but once that's up, the cost of repairs is gong to cost owners a fair bit. Over all there are already a bunch of little gremlins in the system, and I'm sure it will only get worse with age.

I suspect these hybrids are going to be eating 12v batteries. Only time will say for sure, but that's just a sense I'm getting. I also wonder what will happen to the system when Ford eventually cuts off connected services? Or when cell phone companies stop using LTE? This is not an unfounded concern. There are vehicles made within the last 10 years that got cut off due to 3G shutdowns. Will the system still sit there endlessly trying to ping the Ford servers till the 12v is dead? Will Ford give an update to shut the system down when that happens? My guess is no. Once the factory warranty period for a model year ends, say goodbye to software updates.
